September 6, 201015 yr Hi all, I have been flying with the enbseries bloom and fsx (tuned to NickN's settings) since last year, and love the effect it adds. But lately, I have run into a situation where I am forced to shut it off because whenever I ever need to switch apps FSX will crash! This is happening ever since I installed FSX on my new W7 64 rig. Running full screen exclusively is not an option because I need to access the web or ActiveSkyEvolution during long flights, but truth be told I won't have any crashes if I stay with either full or windowed mode for the full session.I can easily reproduce on my system whenever ENBloom is enabled. After about 15 minutes or so, if I switch from full screen to windowed mode (via alt-enter) FSX CTD's. Windows will report the crash, and its always the same error listed below:Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: fsx.exe Application Version: 10.0.61472.0 Application Timestamp: 475e17d3 Fault Module Name: unknown Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000 Exception Code: c0000096 Exception Offset: 2b2b2b2c OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033I have no tweaks in my cfg other than Affinitymask=14 (to prevent stutters in TrackIR) and HIGHMEMFIX=1. DirectX 9.0c and the nvidia driver is up to date, AA is setup according to Tab's settings in the PMDG forum with AA enabled in FSX, and the nvidiainspector fsx profile. As a test, I run a saved 15 minute approach flight into Zurich LSZH in the PMDG MD11. Upon landing and at the gate, when I alt enter FSX crashes. When I remove the two enbseries files (d3d9.dll and enbseries.ini) I repeat the same situation and at the end of the flight I am able to alt enter to window mode and back to full screen without any crashes. I have tried various settings for the enbseries.ini from others posted in Avsim and elsewhere, and no matter what I try, my installation of FSX has all of sudden decided to crash if I switch screen mode with enbseries enabled. As an alternative, if I stay in full screen mode and use the windows key to switch to another app and back, I get a similar crash or I have to try repeatedly clicking the windows - or enter key to return to FSX. (FYI, i get no beep when I click the FSX icon in the taskbar like I normally do, a sure sign that something is wrong)In summary, when I have enbseries enabled, full screen to windowed mode crashes, and if I use full screen exclusively and windows key to switch out I usually crash or find it very hard to recover. I miss the bloom effect and would love to have it back, I don't know why this is happening. I understand this is a "hack" file, but I had no problems before the switch to w7. Can anyone provide advice? Is this a limitation of ENBloom and W7 64bit? A.J. Domingo
September 6, 201015 yr I have Win7 64bit and ENB bloom set by NickN settings.. no problems, no CTDs, so I don't think this is the limitation of ENBloom and W7 64bit. Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
September 6, 201015 yr Can anyone provide advice? Is this a limitation of ENBloom and W7 64bit?Interesting - I get the same crashes on W7 64-bit when switching between window and fullscreen modes (sometimes it takes a few switches), but I never thought to connect it with the ENB mod. Will have to try without and see how that goes. September 6, 201015 yr Commercial Member Have you tryed a diffrent version of the ENB series?http://enbdev.com/download_en.htmIve been using the Burnout Paradise v0.075b since it was released i suggest you try that version as it states"Fixed bug with ALT TAB switching."just download it from the Burnout Paradise v0.075b kink on the page above, you should beable to keep your current tweaked enbseries.ini and just replace the d3d9.dll rendering hookalso dont unpack the effect.txt file inc with it as it uses a softfocus HLSL shader that looks a bit nasty/blurry in FSXLatersGizmo http://shadeforfsx.blogspot.com/
September 7, 201015 yr Author I downloaded the burnout paradise enb mod, and used it's copy of the d3d9.dll (and my previous copy of the enbseries.ini), but I am sad to report I received the same crash at the end of flight. I think I'll try a clean fsx.cfg this time with no mods whatsoever. I am also contemplating doing the ******* BP=0 tweaks, not sure if that will fix this specific issue but I am curious to see if it bring me more fps. I have the necessary hardware for it, so I'm going to see what all the fuss is about there :( I can live without enb bloom, but the difference it makes visually is just too good to pass up. I will keep on trying to fix this, and I appreciate your advice. Thanks! A.J. Domingo
September 7, 201015 yr No tweak will help. I know these crashes as well, they are from switching between full screen and windowed, no matter what you do.Have you tried to disable ENB with shift+F12 before switching? Maybe this helps...
September 7, 201015 yr Did you also try with UIautomation.dll? Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
September 7, 201015 yr I would suggest you to right click on the FSX icon and in the tab "Compatibility" choose to run FSX in "Vista with Service Pack2".Good luck,Pegasus. September 8, 201015 yr Author You know, just switching enbloom with the shift f12 during mode changes makes perfect sense!! I will give it a try!I already had the uiautomation.dll in my fsx folder. I had done my research when I moved to w7 to make sure FSX was not impacted by the w7 quirks (i.e. fsx in its own drive, addons installed on the c drive outside of the programs files folder, UAC off, all apps open as administrator, and firewall exclusions for FSX and addons/dlls like UT2, ASA)I hope this works, I will report back after the test. Just out of curiousity...even if your fsx doesn't crash with enbloom and w7 64bit, on my system if I try to click on the FSX icon in the taskbar to regain full screen mode, I don't get a beep when I am supposed to hit the enter key. Is this normal? A.J. Domingo
