Warning: Stay away from Googlegear/ZipZoomFly

Featured Replies

Hello All,This is perhaps a bit off topic, however I feel that simmers who build their own computers should know of the terrible treatment I recieved from ZipZoomFly, formerly Googlegear.I decided to upgrade my system from present and bit the bullett for the high dollar P4, Asus P4-C-800 Delux MB, and 1Gig Kingston matched PC3200 ram.I have bought from them before, when they were Googlegear, and it was always shipped same day, no problem with credit card, and always got what I paid for in great shape. Now that they have changed their name they should add 'Fly by Night' to the end.I placed my order Tues Morning, paid with credit card, money was out of my account within 2 hours, (typical hold for merchant) and expected it to be shipped with their free 2 day service air. In checking their website that evening, order was still in processing, had not been shipped. Called them next morning and was told, processing now took 1-2 days . . so I added next day air to my bill to get it here by Thurs . . .no dice. Another day for processing the new charge. Then I was lied to by three different individuals, with three different lies. When Merchandise finally did arrive today, (Friday), pins on CPU were bent, (must return it to INtel, Asus Motherboard was defective, wouldn't even boot up to BIOS settings, and I'm not sure about the RAM, as nothing else worked. I spent 6 hours on line with Asus's tech people, doing everything they suggested . . .(very nice people), in the end they suggested I return it to ZipZoomFly for replacement. I informed them that I would rather throw it away than deal with them again and they offered me a RMA for return and exchange for another new MB. Tech assistance said an interesting item: "We get back more defective MB's from them then anyone else we sell too . . . and I'm sure they were out of stock and send you one they knew was defective just to get you off their back . .. in checking serial numbers, we've found them doing that alot lately . . . try buying from another retailer next time . . . Well, I couldn't agree more. So, when its time to upgrade, don't even bother with ZZF, unless, of course you want to get stung. Sorry to rant, just wasted three days of my time and my money fooling around with a bunch of jerks who use to do business properly!Best to all,Clayton T. Dopke (Clay)Major, USAF (retired)"Drac" without upgrades . . .

Clay, I tried NewEgg.com at the advice of another poster and was very satisfied with their service. Also, A2Z Computer, here in Aurora, OH, seems to be pretty good but at a slightly higher price than NewEgg. Too bad about your experience with a supplier you had a history (kind of) with.Steve

Sorry to hear this Clayton. :-8I have always bought my hardware and some other items from newegg.com and never had a problem, 100% satisfied.Just a week ago my video card was having issues and retuned it to themupon "their" request, refunded my money no questions ask.I only shop at newegg.com for this reason, they are simply the best. Just a little plug for them :-lolJay:-wave_____________________________________________________________________

I swear by Newegg, great prices and support

Thanks Guys,Looks like NewEgg will be my new choice . . . it's a shame because I had, up until this week, always gotten excellent service from googlegear, however, I guess the change in name also indicated a change in customer satisfaction.Best to all,Clay

I've ordered from NewEgg-awesome service and sales. I've also ordered from GoogleGear and never had a problem. I will keep an eye on them Clay. Thanks for the heads up.On a side note, guess my account here had expired and now have to start all over again at post #1. *sigh*

GoogleGear was always my first choice for ram, motherboards and cpu's because the price couldnt be beat and shiping was very reasonable if not free. I was just getting ready to order some corsair ram from them when I read your letter. Thanks for the heads up. Perhaps the name change indicated problems with the company. Too bad If its true.Dennis

Dennis,Yes, it's a shame, because in the past they have always given me good service . . . however, I can't get over what the Asus tech rep said:"we get more return defective MB's from them than anyone else . . .and they had been out of stock for two or more weeks," so, I guess I just got a returned one to get me off their backs. A really terrible way to do business. It sure ruined a good relationship!Clay

Hi Clay,I bought from GoogleGear once and was not satisfied with their service... although it was not as bad as what you experienced. As others have mentioned, NewEgg.com gets high marks from me. I have bought lots of items from them and have never had any problems and always receive very prompt service.

Thanks for "Headsup". Very unprofessional, I was one of their customers before name change.Erv MooreUSAF Ret CMSgt

Clayton,Sorry to hear about your experience with ZZF. I have used them and Newegg with out any real issues. Only once did I get a CPU with a bent pin from ZZF, but never DOA from them.I read the message on ZZF's web about the change in name. It sounds odd to me. I think they will cut inventory and the selection of products - probably was not cost effective for them. ZZF usually had the better price, though sometimes by only $1. Go with a retailer that provides quality products. The last product I got from ZZF is my FX5900 Ultra for about 37% off the actual price + free shipping.Guess I'll stick with Newegg for now. Thanks for the info!David
