October 19, 201015 yr Hello guys,I'm curious to know if some aircraft have almost instant IRS alignment as compared to the 10 minutes on the -400. I'm making a new airline and I elected to revive the -400 line into a new generation style jet. Would want to know if an alignment time of 15 seconds is absurd. Thanks in advance!
October 19, 201015 yr I think it's more personal preference. I have mine set to 10 minutes but also have the time to wait since I always start from Cold and Dark. Back when I didn't start cold and dark, I had it set for instant. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
October 19, 201015 yr Author Nono, I mean in reality, are there jets that align fast or even instantly?I've heard Airbuses align instantly or am I wrong?
October 19, 201015 yr Ahh, sorry. Misread. I'll back off this topic now then since I honestly have no idea haha. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
October 19, 201015 yr Commercial Member Nono, I mean in reality, are there jets that align fast or even instantly?I've heard Airbuses align instantly or am I wrong?Yes you can fast align on a turnaround or if the aircraft has been on the ground less then 18 hours, just go from Align back to NAV. No need to change the time in the options. Think it should take 3 minutes but maybe someone who still fly's the 744 can comfirmRegards Rob Prest
October 19, 201015 yr Nono, I mean in reality, are there jets that align fast or even instantly?I've heard Airbuses align instantly or am I wrong?I just cant see how they can be aligned instantly. Smaller planes with smaller tubes could I guess be aligned smaller, I know your distance from the equator also changes the alignment time, but these are very precise units, especially the ones based on Laser Gyros, that instant alignment just seems hard to accomplish.A quick align is possible, because the rate of precision while the aircraft is moving (due to the rotation around the three axis of movement) will cause noticeable marings of error in about an hour. A quick align will correct this, as opposed to align an unpowered IRS, which is starting from scratch. If the nav unit is aligning instantly, then I am thinking it is not inertial based, but rather radial, or something else. October 19, 201015 yr Most AHARS systems in things such as the G1000 or Aspen EFD 1000 align in a couple seconds. These are completely different form full blown IRS systems though. Joe Sherrill
October 20, 201015 yr I'm sure this really matters in the airline setting. In the time it takes to board a 747, 10 minutes is not even an issue. FWIW, I have mine set at a custom setting of 4 minutes, a number that was removed from somewhere, ahem, "cold and dark". Doug Orvis PP-ASEL-IA (USA), Based at KHEF Picture courtesy of Kyle Rodgers
October 20, 201015 yr Author Alright, so for the sake of realism I'll set the timer back to 10 minutes.Ioanair (company I made) has a new type of 747, dubbed the 747-400NG which was basically the same concept as the MD-10. A 747 body with the avionics of the 747-8i. I thought the 8i has or will have a quick alignment system for nav but it looks I am wrong. It remains that my little invention named the 747-400NG just has a 8i cockpit with LCD gauges and CDU's with blue text :)
October 21, 201015 yr The usage of GPS position and velocity information plus historical data storage enables inertial platforms to be restarted instantaneously. The FAA approved process allows following commercial flight of up to 18 hours. It can be used for short INS power loss situations, and platform alignment in motion, thereby cutting alignment time, an operational advantage.http://www.honeywell.com/sites/servlet/com.merx.npoint.servlets.DocumentServlet?docid=D1A8786B5-5658-438B-AB93-7B37E787F29APreviously, tactical aircraft on scramble alert had their platform maintained aligned using GPU. Navy aircraft used a signal from the carrier INS to align theirs, being constantly subjected to deck motion. Regards, Opher Ben Peretz
