The Recent Ministry of Defence spending review in the UK has confirmed that the fastest jet transport flying today will be fully withdrawn by 2013 :-((((However that still allows plenty of time to upgrade stuff that was not on the original panel. The OH panel now has L to R:- A fully integrated and operational cabin pressurisation system.Control surface indicators properly illuminated from dusk to dawn.Refrigerant boost fan.Working oxygen supply pressure gauge.Doors opening and closing lights also mirrored on the EO's panel.A Just for fun Panic button. Currently calls the FS9 help screen. In the future it will call up the voice check lists.Sick-O-Meter alias an accelerometer to measure the amount of passenger vomit down the back of the pilot's neck!Working Master Gen lights.Fridge circulation switch.Battery volts (it looks "cool" even though it's not quite correct)Generator volts (still slightly oversize)A Set of working circuit breakers. All these are a great help considering that normally this a/c is flown by 3 lucky lucky crew and I am only one!!Vololiberista

Nope, the dear old VC-10 is, I think - she could hit Mach 1 if the pilot wasn't careful.Or wanted a bit of fun...Nice bit of modding there, volo.;)

Sorry, the VC10 is "still" today the fastest jet airliner. Superceded only by Concorde. For commercial service the engines were limited. But even so the commercial aircraft were able to attain .94 or .96 in normal level flight. In the correct circumstances mach1 could and was exceeded. The airlines however in order to reduce passenger vomit limited the a/c to .84 or .86. If you want to fly faster just disable the warning bell and go for it. There is a story of a passenger falling ill out of South Africa and the pilot not only went up to FL450(which is also a tad outside the certification) but also flew at M0.95 and saved a massive amount of time. What about cabin pressurisation you may ask? Well like Concorde which never exceeded a cabin height of 6,000ft the VC10 rises to 7,000ft above FL350 and 8,000 only above FL 4000.The RAF who currently fly them have no barber pole on their IAS. Having said that the airframes are approaching 50 years so I'm sure they take care of them!!!!!!My long term aim is to add a voice check list as I have a copy of the flight manuel. But first I want to activate as many bells and whistles in the cockpit as I can.vololiberista

I used to think the 727 was the fastest airliner other than Concorde but if your figures are correct (and it sounds like you know your stuff) then the VC10 was even faster. It is a beautiful aircraft - another proof of the old adage, "If it looks right it will fly right."May I ask where you obtained the model you are using? Is it a much modified David Maltby product or from somewhere else?

Yes, it's a freeby DM model available here. I prefer his cockpit to the others. And yes I have made a few mods. Cabin pressurisation being one. The cabin height gauge is on the main panel. Also on the main panel I have added brake pressure, a taxi speed monitor, a TCAS (as the VC10 is a tad over 5,700kg a TCAS is now mandatory), working TCU's, Speed brake light, MFD, Feel fail and power control function lights, working engine fire handles, flight time log, a more accurate OAT gauge, and a parking brake light. Also I have moved some of the INS equipment to a more logical position. In effect I have done exactly what the RAF have done in order to keep the certification current! Plus I am trying to add as many working components as I can get to at least within 50% of the flight manuel which is well over 600 pages!!!!!! Aslo I have tried to create a more accurate panel light colour.vololiberista
