RC4 has the slows

Does anyone have a fix for RC4 running slowly when used with ASE (Active Sky Evolution)? There was suspose to be a fix through Windows Task Manager, then changing the Processor Affinity for RC4, but I could not get that to work. Thanks, zach

HelloDo not use DWC in ASE
Thanks, Mad Dog but:I cannot get realistic wx with ASE when DWC is turned OFF.I am I the only one with this ASE/RC4 problem?Any other fix ideas?

Be sure to get the very recent ASE service downloads that give you more options. Not using DWC which if you are using FSX forces Global Weather is less realistic rather than letting dynamic weather take its course especially while you are approaching.See the HI-FI SIM support forum here on AVSIM.To increase RC performance insure display text is not checked in the RC general tab. Other than that, RC is subject to the large resource load consumed by AES especially in DWC mode.

Download the latest BETA update for ASE, I believe the current build is 629. In the new build is SP2, which has a new mode called "Standard Mode", which will greatly increase the accuracy of the weather without the slow response issue you will find with DWC.

I have noticed this also and the first thread I read was Ron's sticky about ASA(E). I never really cared since up until now I just check the wind prior to flight and set it as my rwy (yes, I am aware it's not realistic but I am currently focusing on learning other things).Updating ASE as Ron mentioned works well, it definitely works better with the Standard Mode in the General section like Scott said, but I have a question; Why is RC's QNH always off? I tried both with ASE and with default weahter on multiple flights last night thru this morning and it's always off by a fairly large margin. If it's getting it's data from FS, then what did I not do? This is any stage of flight. I can ask for a altimeter check, hear RC's responce, hit "B" on the keyboard and it's always off with an average of .03 with the highest I saw last night being of by .07. RC said 30.01, hit B, and it set to 29.94. Maybe it's fsx that's off, I don't know but thought I'd ask while it's fresh in my head.Thanks.

I never really cared since up until now I just check the wind prior to flight and set it as my rwy (yes, I am aware it's not realistic but I am currently focusing on learning other things).Selecting a predicted active runway prior to flight might be hazardous to your health. There are many issues besides weather that affect the AI choice of runway that could conflict with your selection. RC looks at AI patterns first, a reason not to use global weather as I stated in the pinned topic. Then RC scores based on runway facilities and weather.I can ask for a altimeter check, hear RC's responce, hit "B" on the keyboard and it's always off with an average of .03 with the highest I saw last night being of by .07. First using the "B" key outside of FAA territories can set your altimeter incorrectly since it is hard coded to switch to standard pressure based on the transition altitude of 18,000 feet or FL180 in the US authority area. Other areas can have a transition altitude typically well below that. FSUIPC returns the absolute pressure I believe. If it is set to do weather smoothing this could have an effect. To check FS pressure you can use the Shift-Z toggle I believe.Thanks.

Downloaded ASE update, Build 629.With Standard mode checked, RC4 is fast...just super. However, wx is not good. Altimeter settings are off and rain on METARS reported at KMSB is a not depicted.Using DWC mode, wx is excellent. Altimeter settings are spot on...and KMBS rain is depicted...lovely...but RC4 runs slow. The choice remains, in ASE if you want the best weather...its DWC, and only DWC. If you want marginally accurate weather with RC4 running fast, its Standard mode checked. So, how do I get fast RC4 with DWC mode ON?Thanks, zach

RC runs fastest with Display Text turned off. Stick to Interactive AI Chatter and not use the Prerecorded Chatter option. That's about it.I'll assume you run FSX and you don't care about RC (or any other application) getting incorrect predictive weather and AI patterns because of the forced Global Mode with DWC turned on. I don't know if ASE has a setting to determine its weather update rate for DWC which others have stated can take a heavy toll on SimConnect (which is also used by FSUIPC 4) and CPU time for rendering. See if you can reduce this.First you need to shutdown unneeded services. If you use weather archives and are not constantly downloading weather then you can shut down your Internet connection and disable many of your security services in the background.Second, try setting affinity so RC and FSX run on one core at a higher priority then ASE and other tasks on another core if you have a physical multicore processor.RC at a high rate monitors AI and your aircraft for position and navigation compliance via FSUIPC which uses SimConnect. Any competition of that link with other resources can slow RC. Take into consideration the heavy processing toll FSX itself takes on CPU resources and this becomes a necessary limiting factor for all add-on performance efficiency. In a recent Computer Pilot issue, an article on FSX benchmarking found that FSX performed better under Win 7 64 bit than Win VISTA 64 bit. It was thought due to some inside resources they had that Win 7 had the ability to catch processor calls for complex calculations and pass it to a lightly loaded graphics processor. FSX (and FS9) use mostly the main CPU processor for graphic rendering so there should be cycles available for use on the GPU for FSX (and any other complex processor call add-on) and support Win 7's redirection freeing some CPU resources. The improvement was 37% on frame rates, as I recall. The overall CPU performance increase should speed up RC. (I am assuming you have a separate graphics card with its own processor and RAM. The benchmark as I recall used a GTX260 NVidea based graphics adapter.A separate sound card with its own audio processor and RAM should free up CPU access as well. For investigating see if Process Explorer form this site page works for you:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb795533.aspxIt must run with its startup icon set to run as admin I would expect.

Getting rain to show up in Active Sky has always been hit or miss. DWC is the only thing really to get rain to show up, or you could use REX which I am starting to think is the better weather program. However, I still use ASE because you can customize the weather if I so choose, use historical weather, and it creates the snapshot file that can be read by FSFlight Keeper and Topcat, so if I customize the weather, it shows up in those programs.I tried the "cloud smooth" mode once, and it was a total mess. First off, you cannot clear the weather in FSUIPC in that mode as it never seems to get back, clouds look right, but pressure and temps were waaaaay off. DWC looks good and gets great results, but will knock add on planes with high fidelity autopilots right out of the sky. Last flew with it on flying the Level D 76, and I almost didnt make it.Standard mode really is the improvement for me. Still seems their supression settings are working right, and you get this momentary white flash in the upper sky, and you will take a bit of a FPS hit when the new weather is loaded into the sim, but the weather always seems right (aside from the precipitation issues now and again), the temps are always good, the winds are good or very very close, both on the ground and aloft, and RC has never gotten pressure right for me, always being off a few points. I just gotten into the habit of going off of what ASE says, and if the RC Atis is close, stick with the ASE report, only going by what RC says if it delievers some winds or pressure that is way different than expected.

AS65 maintains a weather snapshot. My FS Build works with it just fine. If it is the same structure perhaps those other planners will work also. With AS65 by the time I get really close to the airport RC delivers the pressure described in the destination METAR. Further out it usually delivers a few points difference which I would expect. AS65 does the dynamic weather. In FS9 I have it turned off. AS65 has a "weather configurator" but I've never used it.I collected lots of downloaded real weather archives placing them in folders by region, season, and weather conditions (thunderstorms, CAVOK, etc.).

I want to thank everyone for their comments.Information is very informative and helpful.I find ASE is the best for accurate wx depiction, and DWC is the best mode for accurate wx within ASE.Comments on this though is appreciated.zach
