October 25, 201015 yr I thought I had engine start procedures down pat....... Cranked both up for weeks without a fire. Yesterday #1 starter seemed to be engaged longer than normal so I stopped the procedure and checked outside. Props were feathered on both engines and I KNOW they were unfeathered properly. Relaunched a new flight, unfeathered the props, checked outside to make sure they were in start position. Same problem trying to start #1. Shut it down and checked outside. Both props in full feather.Anyone have an explanation for this?ThanksNeal H Neal Howard
October 25, 201015 yr Did you wait for the EGT to go below 200 before attempting to restart?Engines tend to blow up unless you follow this rule.As for not starting, were your flow valves open? October 25, 201015 yr The props will go from flat to feathered all on their own unless they are on the start locks, due to the bleed-down of the oil pressure in the prop dome that forces the flat pitch. Loss of oil pressure results in feather. If you are using the pump to unfeather, do one side then start it, then do the other side and start it. Make sure your electric fuel pump is on too for first engine start. Dan Downs KCRP
