WideFS

Featured Replies

Hey guys,Since I've been at the FSWeekend last weekend at Lelystad, the Netherlands, I have been thinking about how I use FS. It seems I could enjoy it much more than I am doing now, with the help of an actual yoke and throttle levers (which I'm all going to buy from Saitek, I think). Hpwever, that's not the only thing I've seen. There were many people around that had either a secondary computer or a laptop next to their computer on which they usually displayed some kind of map. After talking to some guys, it appeared they were using WideFS. So, when I got home, I downloaded it. Seeing the price, I first want to ask some questions about it here.1) I have a laptop on which I'll use WideFS and on which I want to run my addon programs. Will it be possible to run via WideFS:- Pro Flight Emulator;- REX weather engine/ActiveSky;- FSCommander 9 (when I buy it, I'm not sure about it yet).2) What programs do you guys generally run via WideFS?3) I've read in the manual that you can actually configure buttons and such of (for example) GoFlight hardware. Would it be possible to configure Saitek hardware via WideFS? My computer seems to have a driver problem which doesn't enable me to configure buttons on my joystick via the Logitech helper application (I can assign buttons via FS's interface, of course). If this could be done via WideFS, that would be great. That's it for now. It seems like it could be a very nice solution to running FS9 more succesfully on Windows 7. As you know, FS9 tends to pause when you go for the menu bar and I'd rather not do the windowed view/fullscreen switching to often. WideFS could be the solution for these problems.

HelloI use WideFS on my laptop along side my main PC.I run ASE , FSCommander , Showtext for Radar Contact and AiSmooth.Works very well and it is nice having the FSCommander moving map in view at all times. If you are going to run WideFS you will probably be running a registered FSuipc (cheaper bought as a bundle) so all of your button mapping can be done in FSuipc, which is way better than using FS own controls dialog .

I also recommend this set-up. I offload everything I can on the laptop and it works perfectly:- FS Commander- all of Radar Contact (not just the text box)- Squawkbox- GplanOops! I meant "Plan-G"... Embarrassing slip!

Hi Benjamin,

1) I have a laptop on which I'll use WideFS and on which I want to run my addon programs. Will it be possible to run via WideFS:- Pro Flight Emulator;- REX weather engine/ActiveSky;- FSCommander 9 (when I buy it, I'm not sure about it yet).
Yes to all. I am running all three through WideFS
2) What programs do you guys generally run via WideFS?
All of the above plus FS Flightkeeper, ASE (previously ASv6.5 plus ASG), Classic S-Combo (for RFP B742), Radar Contact I am not sure about Saitek and GoFlight. I am using both, Saitek Proflight yoke, rudder pedals plus 2 TQs and a couple of GoFlight modules, but all of that is connected to the main FS9 rig. No problems whatsoever, but Mad Dog is right - you want to get FSUIPC and assign everything through it. Preferably multiple config files, one for each complex add-on aircraft. I could not imagine life without that. I tried to do assignments in FSUIPC just with one file - separate blocks for separate aircraft, but that turned into a nightmare. One FS9.cfg and one FSUIPC.ini for each AC is the way to go. :smile:WideFS is one of those essentials you cannot do without if you fly regularly IMHO. You will not regret it.Oh and BTW, I am running Win XP SP3Regards,Jure

The posts so far have been very informative, helpful and encouraging. I'll simply take the plunge I think and see what happens. I thank you all again for the help!By the way, what navdata does FSCommander 9 take? I always use the Navigraph navdata, but FSC9 is not in the list. Can one use the FSC7/8 navdata that is in the list?
