Fast pc, bad FSX graphics..

Featured Replies

Hi guys, i need your help with the settings of my fsx. My setup:vista 64i7 870 @ 3.74gb 1600 dd3 MSI GTX 460 Cyclone OC Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B550w voedingThe main problem is the textures get's a little blurry sometimes and the way the ground/trees is loading, on my old pc i didn't see the trees popping out like this.

I use the same settings as on my old pc, i had no problems there but that pc was much slower, are there any things that i sould do with nvidia controle-panel and stuff? I invested over 500 euro to get a better pc for fsx and the graphics got worser lol, now it's not perfect but it can still handle big airports as Aerosoft Schiphol X with ok FPS, but still the textures and blurries problem.. i tryd all the settings from low to high, but nothing realy helped.nla1cp.jpgDoes someone know something about this/settings?

Do a search. Most of the answer is in the fifth post below yours.http://forum.avsim.net/topic/318918-automated-tweaking-and-tuning-tool-for-fsx/and:-http://www.simforums.com/Forums/setting-up-fsx-and-how-to-tune-it_topic29041.htmland:-http://forum.avsim.net/topic/283061-bojotes-fsxcfg-file/and:-http://forum.avsim.net/topic/297361-bojotes-tweak-compilation/and:-http://forum.avsim.net/topic/317121-anistropic-or-trilinear-in-settings/There are more, but this will get you in the ballpark. I would also move the proc up to 4 or 4.2 gig. It will do it with the Muggen. :(

There are a bunch of chips that doesnt actually reach 4ghz

550 w PSU may be a little weak with a 460 vc and a OC on your cpu... Are you locking your frames either internally ot externally?Jim

Thnx for the links, i will take a look =)550 w is doeing fine here, temperatures are no problem. Framerates are @ unlimited settings, i tryd locked @ 40 but with no/better results

It's not necessarily the temperatures you need to worry about in relation to the wattage of a PSU, rather the ability of it to deliver a sufficiently stable voltage on all the rails to high end components. 550 watts is not a low powered PSU, (I have a 570 one in my main desktop and that does alright), but you could conceivably see an improvement with a bit more power to spare if you have a lot of peripheral stuff on your PC.To be fair, it's probably a more a case of some tweaking required rather than a change of PSU, but it is worth bearing in mind that when a PSU is on the ragged edge of what it needs to deliver, it can cause problems, not to mention shortenening its life.Al

Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

I think most people would be surprised when they see how little power a normal pc needs to run without any issues. Of course, if you overclock and all alot of components then it would require more, but something like a 1000w power supply is just never going to be useful to anyone except people that run a million drives with 3-4 gfx cards, super oced cpu etc.

Are you using GEX or are your ground textures default FSX? What is your AA set to and what filtering are you using? Make sure you are using Anisotropic for your filtering. You didnt post that info so looking at it again I would say it is your filtering in use.Jim

Well, concerning PSU: I think 550w is totally enough. If I understand it correctly, if a PSU pulls around 400W from the power outlet (if I remember correctly, it was a year ago: mine, measured, on load, prime95 and Real-time HDR IBL test simultaneously, and I have many peripherals, see sig if interested), then, if a PSU is 80%+ rated, then it must be at least 480W PSU to hold the load. Give it another 20% just to be sure, and you come close to 550W.I think PSU requirements are always much too exaggerated. Having enough doesn't hurt though. As for your case, tweaking is in order to get the most out of your system. That, and a fresh fsx.cfg file.

Try locking in-game between 26-30. Also try the external FPS limiter:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/319255-external-fps-limiter/And have you checked out these guides:http://www.simforums.com/forums/setting-up-fsx-and-how-to-tune-it_topic29041.html

i was looking at the video, in regards to the planes i dont see it getting blurry, but i see edge-aliasing. (Eg. "crawling"). You can solve this by applying anti-aliasing (at least 4x) or, better, use "Nvidia Inspector" and apply "8xS" antialiasing. There is a guide somwhere where its clearly shown how to use Nvidia Inspector and i am certain its amongst the links people gave you.In addition, There is more anti-aliasing and "crawling" problems, eg. with trees and certain, other kinds of textures which can ONLY be solved to apply "Transparency Antialiasing", but be warned that anything better than Multisampling (eg. Supersampling) can cause a significant performance hit. It would go too far now to explain all the anti-aliasing options and how to use Nvidia Inspector, as said check out those guides. As for the trees etc. "popping up"...i have no idea..thats just how FSX does it. Game engine is old and outdated. And you could get blurry (low lod) textures if you are flying fast and too high of FPS since the outdated game-engine cannot keep up with loading of the higher LOD (better resolution) textures. The result is a delay until the better textures come up. Therefore use the external frame limiter and set to 30. This is all just proof that the FSX game engine is 28 years old and URGENTLY needs an overhaul. FSX is basically still only "DX9" modded onto a ancient and very ineffective game-engine. We can tweak til we are blue in the face - it doesnt make the code better. The only thing we can do is wait for MS Flight and hope its better. As for the GTX 460..get the lastest drivers, and of course get Nvidia Inspector - and read that guide where its explained.

I too don't see anything wrong here mate, except for FSX itself. My trees pop like that as well, you can tweak your CFG to get it to pop further out and clump the autogen into larger batches but then you end up with more headaches, it's endless.I'm running an i7 @ 4GHz for reference, the overclock helps with average frame rates and the amount of scenery I can set but made no difference to the popping of autogen, as mentioned above this is how FSX is coded.

I got my FSX running pretty sweet, I can load it almost with anything I like and it's gonna give me in almost any situation decent performance. My tweaks are quite simple, though not much tried around here.If you care to try, relevant stuff is:[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=84 (this here is CPU dependant, I have 8cores, incl. No gex, standard ground textures with antisotropic & AA option turned onI'm re-installing fsx & evertything now, and will start with a fresh copy and try to take out the best of it with all the help from above Big%20Grin.gif

Word Not Allowed, and you get no blurries after a longer flight using FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0Jim
