Scenery Add-ons and Helicopter Add-ons

Featured Replies

Does anyone out there have the names of good scenery and helicopter or plane add-ons? I am looking to upgrade my flight sim experience and have found that the default scenery and the default planes and helicopters could be a whole lot better. I am even willing to go to payware add-ons. I want to make the transition to payware soon and would like to have the names of those scenery add-ons and the helicopters and planes that are the best deals and the most attractive looking for FS9. Thank you all so much in advance for the information. Peace!

What you probably ought to do, is check out some of these excellent free ones that used to be payware: http://www.nemethdesigns.com/Nemeth make some of the best choppers for FS, although some of their FSX ones can be a bit heavy on frame rates, notably their Bell UH-1 Iroquois, which of course is no big deal if you are using FS9. Both the FS9 and FSX Nemeth Hughes 500s are amongst the best choppers you can get for FS. You can soup them up a bit with payware sounds from TSS too incidentally if you want really realistic engine and cockpit audio.Dodosim make an excellent Bell 206 too by the way, which can be had for either FSX or FS9: http://www.dodosim.com/adv206.htmlDodosim also have a Bell UH-1D Iroquois in development too which looks like it might be better than the Nemeth one, although whether it is for FS9 I'm not sure.If you have FSX, Cera make two wonderful Bell Iroquois derivatives in the form of the Bell 212 and Bell 412. These are amongst the most realistic FS choppers you can get.Al

I would also get Aerosofts Manhattan scenery. It covers all of New York City's Manhattan, plus it has 4 detailed heliports.

I believe Alphasim once had this beautiful Sikorsky S-55/Westland Whirlwind: http://www.flightsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH1&fsec=0&fname=ALPHS559.ZIPPretty small for a chopper but worth the space on the harddisk. The flying dynamics are completely different to that of the Robinson R22 yet as easy to fly as the default helo does.

Top of my FS9 helicopters list at the moment: the ICARO AW 139, available from Hovercontrol.AW139-2.jpgSearch a little further on the forum, there has been discussion about more of the best addons

YE GADS! That is well beyond payware quality - kudos for mentioning this beautiful hover!

The Alphasim CH53 is an excellent helo - outstanding VC, great sound, handles like you would expect a heavy choppter to feel like - and very FPS friendly. (virtually zero impact) I strongly suggest the CH53 and not the MH53 - the latter has a great external model but the panels are nowhere near as good as the CH53 they released after the MH53. Alphasim are no longer in business but a new company called Virtavia has taken over their product line. Their Kaman SH3G Seasprite is also very good, though I think the CH53 is better and easier to handle as it is far more stable. (But still a fun challenge)...BTW, the Dodosim 206 is available for FS9 but it is very expensive and really geared toward hard-core chopper fans who want absolutely realistic systems and flight dynamics.

I'd suggest taking a look at a number of freeware military hovers of Randy Burton fame. The VCs are non-clickable but nonetheless everything else is OK. And don't forget Antti Pankkonen's beautiful AS365 Dauphin, which is highly accurate after all! Dave.

Thank you everyone for the information. I have been wanting within the last 3 months to start to upgrade my FS9 experience and this gives me lots of information as to where to obtain the best add-ons. Again, thank you and PEACE in this holiday time and Good Flying everyone.
