Yet another JF Heads up.

Hot on the heels of their nice DC-3, Just Flight's 'lite' A318 and A319 are now also released. Similar to their A320 as far as simulation goes, this is no in-depth systems Airbus, but it is very nice all the same and good fun if you just want a simplified airliner flight. Bit of a bargain at just 4.99 for the A318 too. Being native FSX it gets good FPS, it is also not a bad basis for souping up with better avionics, which is what I intend to do with it. Is there a real world freighter version of the A318 or 319? I know EADS have started making A320 and A321 freighter conversions, but I wasn't aware there were freighter variants of the 318 and 319. Anyway, there is no freighter variant in the JF package, nor in the expansion pack either as far as I know. However, there will be a cargo version when I fly it, because I'll be using it in Air Hauler to haul cargo LOLAl

A good deal I suppose. But the model does not look great but what can you expect at that price.

Yeah, it's an okay model as opposed to a jaw-droppingly detailed one. The flight model protection is basically a bank limiter and a few other minor concessions rather than a detailed representation of all the subtleties of a real Airbus flight envelope, but it never pretends that this is not the case so it's a good choice for anyone not wanting to get too hardcore or looking for something to tart up a bit. Since I got both the A318 and the A319 for a tenner, I'm hardly going to complain, you can't even get a round of drinks for that kind of money, and I do think the VC is pretty nice for something that inexpensive.Al

Thanks for the heads up, and the little pointers there, Al. Joe.

This new one looks a lot like the A320 Jetliner from the August release. Here is a good comparison of the VCs. Looks like identical sisters to me.949JF_Compare.jpghttp://forum.justflight.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=13754&SID=4fbze78e6a5f91b1fa38bcaf36b3e9z8Ray

Funny thing is that this release might honestly use the default FBW implementation of FSX while the other and much more expensive "competitor" advertises a somehow special and sophisticated system while doing exactly the same.Nice small review about this inexpensive Airbus offer, Alan. I find the looks on the pictures very good and expected less details on such low priced addons, so a welcome surprise here.

It probably is the same cockpit as the JF A320, which would make sense since the real A318 and A319 are just shortened versions of the A320, so if JF use their same A320 cockpit, then they are doing exactly what EADS does with the real thing. The upside of that is that with minimal development costs, JF can afford to bang these out for a low price, which means anyone can take advantage of that situation and get an FSX A318 or A319 for very little money.Sometimes I can't be fussed with the Wilco one and setting things up realistically, so this is a nice speedy alternative for a quick blast. It's no complex affair, but if you don't want to spend a lot on an Airbus and don't like the default FSX A321, then I think it's worth a punt, as unlike the default FSX 'Bus, it does at least have an FMC of sorts.Al

Correct me if I'm wrong but the newer build Airbus cockpits would have a combined digital standby instrument array while the older ones go analog and separated there. Also you would see a difference when using the older CRTs instead of newer LCDs as primary flight displays. As the A318 variant came later in production, they mostly have the digital/LCD stuff while A320s might go the old way. This isn't a thing to be accurate in such inexpensive releases but maybe raymar was pointing towards this difference. In my eyes, the could have modeled all variants in the modern way and everything would be fine.

Yeah, the A318 would indeed have all digital stuff. It was the first A320 variant to incorporate a lot of shiny new stuff such as laser welding for the construction and digital workstations for the cabin crew, so it's unlikely the flight deck crew would have older instruments, but hey, whaddaya want for a fiver LOL.Al

You name it, Alan. Looks like a high value package in my eyes.

I purchased the A320 Jetliner as a pre-release in the Summer and I have enjoyed it. I sprung for some of the add-on repaints so now I can just change a few numbers in the aircraft.cfg file and have a couple of 318s, 319s and 320s.Three 'unique' Airbus models for about a Fiver each.Ray

So you've tuned the already high value around to an even higher one. Big%20Grin.gifBut you will have troubles installing liveries, right?

No problem with liveries. They are all A320s. The panels are exactly the same. I just tell the first officer he flying with me in a A318 or A319 or A320. He won't know the difference. The only difference is in the variation name in the aircraft.cfg file. I may change a couple of registration numbers so I can remember which is which. we hardly ever have a totally full plane on this simulated trips anyway.. Big%20Grin.gif Ray
