Scenery configuration file in SX?

Featured Replies

In FS9, adding sceneries in the sim adds sections to the scenery.cfg file; however this doesn't happen with FSX. The sceneries register in the scenery library, but the scenery.cfg itself deosn't change. Where does FSX keep its cfg file for the sceneries you add?;)

There are 3 scenery.cfg'sThe scenery.cfg that counts is located by default anyway at C:\Docs and Settins\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSXThe other one is in your root FSX folder and the last one is atC:\Docs and Settins\YOUR NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FSXAlthough it probably doesn't make a difference, after I make changes to the correct one, I will copy and paste it over the other 2 so that they all match.

Thanks for the reply; I forgot to mention that I'm running Windows 7, which puts the hidden files in a different place to XP...;)

Sorry in that case I dont know since I am still on XP. I didn't know Win 7 had that much of a different folder structure than XP did. I guess when I finally switch to the new OS it will take some getting used to for the first few weeks when I am try to hunt down folders.

It is probably not a good idea to edit the two files as you mention. They are intended to be used to restore only the default items if you should accidently delete or corrupt the main scenery.cfg file. As I understand it, they should only contain the default items.

Could be, but in the C:\Docs and Settins\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX, mine already has two backups by default. One called Oldscenery.cfg and another called scenery.org. The scenery.org is a copy of the original. I suppose I could use anyone of those if needed, however after I install any new scenery I always make a backup of the the scenery.cfg prior.

To get the scenery to "take" when you add it in Win7 you must click on a white area of the addon menu after you have selected the folder you want to enable. It's a know bug. Paul
