There's no proof that FSPlanet farms other sites for files unless you know of a court action I don't know of. Where did you get that from? I don't need to be lectured on how much it costs to host a flight sim web site. I was a mod here and my time alone cost me a lot. My head was spinning. If anything I was trying to place a positive light on Flightsim.com so I am curious why you're using my post to cast a shadow on this thread?John
I'm not sure he was "lecturing" you, or that he was trying to cast a "shadow" on the thread.I think he was just pointing out that his files don't mysteriously end up on Flightsim.com unless he uploads them there. This seems to be a true statement based on my experience. I think he was also trying to place a positive light on Flightsim.com, and making a clear distinction between it and FSPlanet. i.e., although Flightsim.com has a pay model, they aren't mercenary about grabbing files from other sites and uploading them.I'm certain that FSPlanet has done this, at least in the past. Almost every file I have uploaded here (Avsim) somehow made its way onto FSPlanet's servers. Now, I doubt I can "prove" it, but it seems a remarkable coincidence that random people would be uploading my files to FSPlanet without asking me. Also, I would find it strange that these same random people would upload my files to FSPlanet, but not to Flightsim.com, or any other website.- Martin

Actually, Tom Allensworth posted a log in 2002, showing a large number of downloads from fsplanet IP address(es) in a very short period of time.http://forum.avsim.n...rary-part-deux/The log file mentioned is no longer accessible (no surprise, this is from 2002), but here's the discussion of it...

That's all fine and good, and Tom is about as saintly a person as they come given he provides indeed what is a free service, but Avsim is still not a court. I am sorry I participated in this thread. I don't feel the Internet is the place to put people on trial. I guess one can "trust no one" and in spite of my words on Christmas, I don't feel I should participate here any more. I'd rather sacrifice my membership over principle than give lip service to dirty laundry, and I feel I have fallen for it.Regards,John

"I think it costs "tons" of money to run it properly like Avsim or Filgthsim do. But Avsim shows how this can be done without members letting the members pay for things declared as "freeware"."Sorry, but FlightSim.com does not charge the members for freeware."If anything I was trying to place a positive light on Flightsim.com so I am curious why you're using my post to cast a shadow on this thread?"This is a positive light?? "My licenses don't single out any site--but technically Flightsim.com or sites that use some type of means to subsidize themselves are guilty of violating my license terms when I don't directly upload a file there."If that's a positive light, I would hate to see a negative light.

As I mentioned at the start of this Jim, it's a game people are going to play in this thread and I think you are playing it. I was not attacking Flightsim.com but if you want to put a spin on my words and turn it into attack, so be it.John
