Snow Effect

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how to edit the snow effect in FSX? Or is there a download out there that improves the effect (payware is fine with me)? It really is a poor depiction of snow falling. FS9 nailed the effect. FSX really should of been better.

As I understand your question comes up every now and again on this forum, and I remember the answer being no. The answer is something like"Snow and rain effects are hard coded and it would be to much to change these effects."Search the forums and I am sure you will find the exact answer, but I am still sure its no.

Sadly, that is the response I've heard too. I agree, the snow effects in FSX leave a lot to be desired.

Yeah, I have searched the topic to some extent. But, what do you mean hard coded? Which files contain the code? And can they be opened?

I asked Tim over at REX about this not too long ago and I also asked ******* (Bojote)who posts his tweaks on the forum and is very knowledgable on the inner workings of FSX, and more or less they both told me, if I remember right, that it was a shader based effect and to edit it, tweak it, or change it would probably break something else. So in other words there most likely wont be any new snow effects for FSX.Hopefully the next sim will do a better job and I also agree that the snow effects were much better in FS9. In fact, the snow effects are really the only thing I dont like about FSX, especially this time of year when you fly into a lot of snow storms. However, after a while you'll get used to them and it wont seem as bad as it really is.
