January 7, 201115 yr this is old, but the reason why my screenie showed FSX 0% CPU usage was because I inadvertantly shut it down b4 switching to the task manager and I had to rush to hit the print screen key.And how come you guys are now recomending the 8GB upgrade? it makes no sense to me. 4GB is more than enough, come on, I run GB for quite some time with no real benefits over 4GBMaybe what is missing for you is that FSX as a whole is for each of us different because we each own parts (add-ons) and combinations that when combined with different settings (BP, LOD, etc) can and will yield different and suprising results.I used to get a rare but repeatble OOM with 6GB on a well tailord win64 with just a 1GB GPU and we arn't talking memory leaks.Had enough of that, after I installed a 12GB set I never looked back, not saying YOU need 12GB but 4GB would never be enough with this FSX installation.
January 7, 201115 yr I dont see how you got an OOM with 6GBy? FSX can't use more than 4? OS uses about 1GBy. You must be running some other heavy program at the same time, or using a 32bit OS.
January 7, 201115 yr Author I´ve made my decission to go with 8GB and no swap file for better performance. But I don´t know which RAM to take, I mean which manufacturer should I take? Corsair or Mushkin or something else? I need DDR2 memory in a stock speed of 800Mhz, can go up to 1066Mhz.. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
January 7, 201115 yr +1. But corsair has the benefits of a 10 year warranty. Although I think other brands have that too.
January 7, 201115 yr Author I´ve just checked the webshop of my normal retailer near my hometown, where I´ve also bought my pc. It seems that they have lot´s ot RAM manufactured by Kingston. I don´t know much about this brand. Are they as good as Corsair or not?I favour this one: http://www.corsair.com/memory-3/xms-classic/ddr2-xms2/twin2x4096-6400c5c.htmlIs it a good choice? Corsair is a "premium" brand for overclockers.. Bert
January 9, 201115 yr We know that FSX swap to disk. For those who have so much ram to be used (8 g or more 12...!) worth trying to set the page file only with the ram memory.
