Looking to purchase 2 add-ons for fsx

Featured Replies

I´ve been enjoying FSX basically in it´s default state other than applying minor tweeks for total satisifaction. Now I want to add a couple of addons that could possibly make my experience with FSX even better. I am seeking opinions from the FSX community to which 2 add-ons would be worth investing in. My signature shows my computer specs and add-ons I have already installed. Thanks in advance.George Clark

If you're up for a bit of a challenge then have a look at either the Razorback or the B-17 (both with Accusim) from A2A Simulations.

Thanks, I´ll have a look at them both. I guess that would be a challenge since I haven´t flown props much in any version of flight simulator that I have had throughout the years.

Are you looking for aircraft or scenery?Jim

It could be of either one. I understand that with aircraft such as PDMG and Level-D, it automatically requires a good flightplanner. I have experience with both aircraft in FS9 and also FSBuild. My problem with those add-ons is knowing which aircraft provides less impact on the system. Also is FsBuild compatible with fsx? I´ve also read how some sceneries gives poor performance while others are better on framerates. In order to make sure my money is well spent that is why I am seeking opinions from others.

GeorgeIf it's an airliner you want I'd wait for the forthcoming PMDG 737NG. If you can't wait, the Quality Wings 757 is a polished product.I can also recommend the Flight1 Islander as an almost perfect payware aircraft. Realistic, immersive, easy to fly and easy on FPS. It's slow though, so make sure you've got some nice scenery below your wings.Horizon Simulations UK photo scenery is fantastic. As is Aerosoft's Madeira. And then there's ORBX's Pacific North West and Pacific Fjords. These are some of my favourite things.. :( Ian

My two for you would be 1) LDS 767 or even the JS4100 2) Orbx NA Blue: Pacific NorthWest

Looking at Flight Environment X and Ground Environment X. Also been looking at FlightSim Commander. Even though I´m getting great performance now, not sure how it will be when I start adding custom scenery. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Ian, I am a very patient person and can wait for the upcoming 737NG. How is the QW 757 performance wise? Is it worth investing in? I love flying commercial aircraft.I also appreciate the opinions from others who posted on this thread. Big thanks to all. That´s why I love this avsim community. The QW works very well on my system, which as you can see is only mid-range. I get reasonable FPS in most situations, including large default airports with UT2 traffic on 50%. You should have no problem. It flies very well and most systems are reproduced. You also get real feel for the weight and 'slipperyness' of the aircraft on approach. And it looks and sounds very good indeed. You won't regret investing in this one. :( Ian

If you can afford it, TrackIR will make more difference to your flight sim experience than anything else. Failing that, pick up the VRS SuperBug, the Lotus l-39 or the Iris A-10. If you are looking for scenery, get the photo real Hawaii scenery from Aerosoft, or anything from Orbx. Finally, you could get REX for textures and flight planning or if you want just the latter, pick up the latest version of the freeware Plan G.Cheers, Noel.

FSX is starting to be like buying a boat, a hole in the water that you can pour money into. There is so much out there now that will enhance your experience over the default FSX.Personally, I always start with scenery vs. airplanes, this way you enjoy looking out the window while idling your time away. You need to ask yourself some basic questions and then fit the bill from there. Do you prefer to go low and slow or is your interest heavies at FL 30. Then scenery is less of an issue.Do you prefer a certain region of the planet? Then focus on improving scenery in that region.Check out the freeware sceneries available in the most popular flightsim sightes for the region(s) you prefer to fly and start downloading and building your scenery base. The list of most popular addons are all mentioned above already, but be prepared to open up your wallet as I noted in my boat analogy. ORBX, REX, GENX - NA, EU, UTX, Commander - that will set you back $1000CAN or US for that bloody lot.Good luck - that's one small step for a man one giant leap for mankind.cheers.
