Two FSX.cfg entries

Featured Replies

[Main]ProcSpeed=3802PerfBucket=7

Anyone have any idea about these, they're both in the .cfg by default."ProcSpeed" looks like it might have to do with the CPU clock. "PerfBucket" I'm clueless.

Those are calculated by FSX when you first run the program. It's a "best guess" made by the sim based on your hardware... :(

Well I dropped the "ProcSpeed" down to "2000" (assuming the number refers to MHz) and I got about a 20~50% increase in FPS (avg. before tweak: 10~15 FPS) with the default Cessna at Friday Harbor. I'll be doing more tests on this one.

Doesn't FSX just recalculate it after you change?

That would be negative.

What speed is your cpu at?

Mine's set to:PerfBucket=7ProcSpeed=7009CPU speed ~ 3.2GHz (Q6600)Do you reckon I should 'drop' the ProcSpeed value and test?Thanks

Look at my sig (look in the CPU-Z validator image.) It's 2GHz.

You guys need to read this post from Phil Taylor where he explains that changing those values does nothing. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ptaylor/archive/2007/06/01/sp1-tweak-of-the-week-or-not.aspxChanging the procspeed values or any increase you think you get is only placebo effect. Otherwise we would all have been over this long time ago.

So that's what those entries mean/do.
