X Plane 10

Featured Replies

I'm just curious, why would you keep buying X Plane and all those add ons if you dislike it so much?
Because, like many people I keep hoping it will evolve and each new whole number version falls far short of my expectations. By evolve I mean attract quality vendors. Version 9 now has Goflight, REX and RXP supporting them. That's three major vendors while FSX has hundreds. I like flying all types of aircraft including complex commercial jets and I have not seen anything close to the fidelity of a Boeing FMS or Airbus CDU. I value the technical complexity of aircraft more than the exterior shine and when I see screen shots of a gorgeous Boeing or Airbus flying with that 'dumb' default GPS I go 'hmmmffff' or some sound like that. I say again that X-Plane will never evolve to more than a 'buy it, try it and delete it' simulator until Austin decides to quit tinkering and turns over the planning to folks who understand the current FS simulator market. I wish the you the best of luck and will buy v10 just to keep my streak alive and just like always I'm sure, all version 9 planes won't work in 10 until/if they are updated. :) Bob.. :)
The Falco & default 172 3D's. I like them...
Larry, can you integrate the RXP 430 into the panel to replace the default now? Thanks.Bob.. :)

FSX vendors are migrating. Carenado being one of them.I noticed there are no high quality Boeing FMC's for X Planeor CDU's...yet. TBH, I haven't seen an accurate Airbus CDU made for FS9 or FSX either. I have seen attempts at it. But nothing that blows my mind.Have you seen UFMC for X Plane. Does quite a good job at simulating a Honeywell FMC for Boeing aircraft. Also, the specially made FMC for the x737. Again, neither of those make me say WOW but they are on par with what's available for MSFS. An exception is of course the PMDG 747 FMC and systems. Credit where it's due.As for high quality Boeing FMC's for X Plane, keep an eye out later this year. A 744 is coming and it will be study sim level with a properly modelled FMC and systems.I have heard from a few people that you CAN integrate RealityXP instruments into X Plane.

I will take a look at the aircraft you referenced above for version 10, however, I hope the cost of the version 9 USB is not indicative of future X-Plane costs. :)http://store01.prostores.com/servlet/x-planestore/Categories?category=X-Plane+9+SoftwareBob.. :)

Bob, the RXP screen CAN be integrated into existing aircraft to replace the default screen; however, unless the aircraft author provides a specific version of an aircraft to utilize the RXP controls in 3D, you'll be stuck using the pop-up to control the RXP. For many this would probably be fine. I had developed a version of the Falco that 100% recreates the 3D interaction of the Garmin 430 using The RXP engine
....but it required a modified version from RXP that alienated a "push and hold" function (can't recall what function it was) ...anyhow RXP were not willing to ship a version like that so it got left behind. Regarding "constant changes" by Austin.... that is an older paradigm that was more valid "back then" than today. The work we've been doing on V10 has been to build upon the V9 foundation. Technically, V9 provided a new and stable foundation but had minimal eye candy on top....I mean, concrete slabs don't look nice but are necessary to support pretty stuff and V9 was x-plane's concrete slab. V10 is the building on top of that and should be a better measure of where x-plane is going. Even so, it's just the "first floor" with lots of room to grow. We've prioritized bringing x-plane into "modern times" visually and some tech (i.e. Garmin 430) has taken a back seat...but it will get addressed in due time.Tom

Thank you Tom for the thorough and thoughtful response. I will remain hopeful that X-Plane will exceed my expectations for a complete fight simulator in the future. Thanks!Bob.. :)

I am not starting this thread to start debate, or speculations. I am only expressing my deep anticipation of this program. I have been with flightsim since before some of you were born and long before this web site existed. I have bought every version of Microsoft flightsim and very impressed with latest. It is beautiful when working but is a ticking time bomb. If I sneeze too hard, I am presented with a new problem/error never before heard of and did not even exist before Win 7. I am presently re-installing once again with all addons which has become a career.I have had X Plane installed before but no longer using. I have read much discussion about X Plane 10, and eagerly awaiting it's release. I hope other developers of addons are also gearing up for this promising flightsim.
Still Hoping and Waiting . . . . . . . . . .I am still getting info about attractive airplanes and addons for X Plane 10 and still hoping and waiting for its release. I will not buy any of these products until I have X Plane 10.

Hi,Out of curiosity and with all due respect what is specifically holding you back from enjoying the current XP 9.6.7?

You'll be waiting for a while. XP10 will still be a while. Not to mention the modifications needed to make XP9 aircraft compatible with XP10. Especially if developers are going to take advantage of the new lighting system.XP9 costs $29. No one can say that's going to break the bank.

What's the difference between the free xp9 demo and the full version? Why should one buy the full version in that case?

The free demo is just that. A demo.No scenery except for Innsbruck. And a time limit of 10 minutes flying time. After the 10 minutes, all controls will fail to work. The DVD is needed in the drive for the simulator to run past the 10 minutes.

Point is, if one doesn't like v9 after 10min there's no reason why that should change after that.Either you like x-planes flight dynamics and/or scenery or not.AFAIR the autopilot works without that time limit

Am I correct in assuming that what you are saying is you can judge the quality of x plane's scenery, flight dynamics and aircraft quality (including virtual cockpit) based on a 10 minute trial limited to Innsbruck airport and surrounding mountains without seeing any other scenery (payware or freeware) or payware aircraft???There is quite a lot of freeware aircraft that are made with incredibly accurate flight dynamics and incredibly realistic scenery packages. Not to mention the payware products. There is absolutely no way someone can judge x planes flight dynamics and scenery based on a 10 minute trial. The autopilot might work after 10 minutes (Don't know if it does because TBH, I couldn't be bothered checking), but there is a message that comes up that tells you to purchase the DVD if you want to continue flying. Nothing is controllable or clickable after that point.

Freeware planes can be loaded into the demo as well...and the demo isn't limited to a one-time-only 10min session. So you can try different scenarios every time.Of course one can judge the quality of a plane during that time span....take a look at the various airshows where the whole flight envelope is being covered during the demo flights in far less than 10min.IMHO it's a waste of money as the flight dynamics definitely aren't going to change after the 10min :wink:It doesn't speak for x-plane if you mention that only add-on planes are very good and not the default ones.....

You're comparing the entire X Plane experience to an air show? The flight dynamics don't change, but the add on quality does. You're right, it doesn't say much about the simulator if it were to be judged by the default aircraft. BUT, if you can show me a person who has a stock FS9/FSX installation, then I will credit you. And when I say stock, I mean absolutely no add ons of any kind. Not even FSUIPC. If I were to judge FSX on its default aircraft, I wouldn't even consider buying it. Bernt, again, you are engaging in an X Plane vs FSX debate. It gets very mind numbing. We know you hate x plane. I don't have a problem with that. Neither does anyone else. Again, I find it hard to understand why you go out of your way to discredit X Plane. Please feel free to fly in the simulator of your choice. Your point has been heard and understood.Microsoft Flight looks to be a simulator well suited to your needs.Happy Simming
