New Laptop for FS9.1

Featured Replies

Just thinking of buying a laptop for FS9, can anybody recommend one that doesnt overheat. Also should I be looking at dual or quad core? Finally most laptops seem to be 64 bit is that ok for FS9Thank you very much Best Regards,Chris EGBB

Hi,Most any modern laptop will run FS9 well, but watch the graphics system that is installed. Yes, 64 bit is fine and it doesn't matter dual or quad because FS9 just uses one core anyway.

I have an Asus G73 series. By far the best designed laptop I found for cooling (and it looked pretty cool too!). My came with an Intel i7 and an AMD Radeon 5870 Graphics card with 1GB of dedicated RAM. Ran FS9 great and looked great despite being an AMD card. They have been out for about a year now so you might be able to pick one up at a good close out price.I was gonna sell it after my new desktop build was finished but I like it so much I think I will just hang on to it. ;)just my 2Clutch

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

Thanks guys much appreciated I am assuming 64 Bit windows 7 will be ok? Best Regards, chris

Hi,Yes and my ATI card works much better than my other brand of video card did on my desktop. Returned that other card after a few hours.

Get this you can't beat the hardware/price.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834214160

For $1,000 less my Gateway NV79 runs FS9 great.

I agree totally with this statement.I had the newest nvidia 580 and sent it back .Then I bought the cheaper ati 6870 and started smiling again.Atleast for fs2004 it was better I don't even have fsx(system hog) on my hard drive.

chris:be sure to puchase a REAL videocard that has it's own memory. stay away for any 'intel on-board' or 'integrated' or 'M-series' cards.

as long as -
  • FS is installed in it's own custom directory NO in the default win7/programs directory.
  • even better is to create a partition, basically given another HD, and install FS there.
  • be sure UAC is OFF ... all sorts of probems for FS and addons if it is on.

What is UAC?

User Account Control

UAC is OFF ... all sorts of probems for FS and addons if it is on.
Not to be recommended as this can compromise the security of your entire PC.The best approach is to set the security and access level of the FS folder itself and any addons you may have outside this structure as well. This is what I do and I have absolutely no issues in running FS9 which, incidentally, is also installed in the default C:\Program Files folder.David
