Did you flash both bios to the same version by hitting F12 at post and overwritting backup bios? Not sure the UD4 has a dual bios or not?
It does have dual BIOS and it's ALT+F12 :)

hey guys, yes have flashed the dual bios so they are the same; my god that was a pain at first....previous asus boards were a little less termpermental when it comes to oc'ing:( Others had this issue on six series inc asus, but they issued a fix for cold boot freeze; gig have not yet, but asus are clearly selling more sb boards; so they were more inclined to get a fix it seems; looks to me like gig have a strict boot bios check; if something is not quite spec standard; it rejects it despite it being tested by the user in windows? ie unusal, but stable v core or mem.. My poor case door....

I just put my P67A-UD4 in place of the ASUS P8P67 I've been using for the past 5 days, so I'll report back with results in the next couple of hours.

Hey, Ivan, dont go too any trouble; maybe hard to replicate...

Actually, given how buggy and error-prone these Gigabyte boards seem to be - it might not be hard at all. I'm already well annoyed with it, and I've only just started. ROFL.

tell me about it; it is the best oc'ing board once I am in windows (could be sb architecture) I have used for stability, but I think the dual bios is crap! I may get the ud7 once we take these back to get the replacements as my shop said they would exchange it for one of those. They seem to have more bios updates on that board. Asus boards had the cold boot issues as well, but they fixed it a lot quicker as they have 2/3 of the sb motherboard market and hence alot of ppl were complaining so they did a fix; there are less gigabyte boards out there. Need to stick with gigabyte as when we have to do the recall swap, I was hoping to plug it in w/out reinstalling win 7 as drivers look to be the same...

Thank you for that Patrick,FPS averaged between 20 and 25, with a low momentary drop to around 16 or 17 when over the worst and most complex renderings. I don't think a computer could have been setup with any more demanding settings than that. Now, FPS numbers do not tell the whole story in this sample. It was still smooth, not perfect, but no stutters, popping or chugging.Because I am now used to fantastic FSX performance with this machine, I could notice that it was working hard at close to it's edge, but still, despite everything, rendered it all quite smoothly without obvious hesitations. However when you are used to 40+ FPS all the time you notice the difference between 20ish and 40ish, but perhaps others with non SB machines would have found it a bit harder to isolate.Kind regards,
Yes I am having similar results to you Stephen. I am using tons of screnery add-ons, rex od, fsdt, photo scren, gex, utx, ut2 100% commerical airliners; my sim is soo smooth now. Waiting for certain complex add-on ac:) Frames are usually around 60 at busy airports to 200 once airborn. Everything maxed. I did get a did into low 20's and it felt like you said 'I could feel it working', must be becuase I am used to higher frames now? On my 920 at 3.8 285, I would run in the 20's mostly, but would get to 12-13 sometimes, but it was still very smooth at 12-13. I hope this set-up is still smooth in the teens as I may get into that stage with complex add-on ac? I would assume that frames in the teens (worst case) would be the same smoothness factor on both systems? The 920 seems smoother on the very low end to me? Maybe I need to do some more testing? They are both 4 cores, both tested with ht off....

Ok, after an agonizing 24 hours with a Gigabyte board, I have disassembled my PC and put the ASUS board in. I was a huge fan of Gigabyte and their new motherboards LOOK absolutely amazing, but the shenanigans with BIOS are just too much to swallow at this point. Maybe in a few months when they get their head back on straight or something, I don't know - but for now, I have to admit - Asus rocks :\

I am not brand dedicated; I have a GB board now, an ASUS prior, an ASUS prior and a no-name prior. Best of the bunch was the no name, mind you I was not OC. I looked at the P8's but read a lot of cases of DOA (including Stephans) and thought I try my luck at the GB board. This UD7 is as quirky as heck for sure but rock stable (9-hours Prime) @4.5GHz 1.35v 65c max temp. Hopefully they fix the bios but who knows.

Gary Andersen
