January 16, 201115 yr I was just looking over some forum posts on performance and in one thread someone had mentioned gamebooster, It says it will close down process that are not necessary, and also turn on "game mode" which im not sure what that means. But anyways to my questions, Will shutting down process's that are not needed speed up performance any or is it an "old wives tale"?Also anyone have experience with this gamebooster? Thanks Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
January 16, 201115 yr Will shutting down process's that are not needed speed up performance yesany or is it an "old wives tale"?nomy FS computer has no garbage installed and was built to be FS only. as a result when running there are 25 processes running ... i don't need 'gameboster'. but, most have their general use computer as FS computer so the machine is full of garbage that load 40-50-60 items into the 'background for convienance'. result is the CPU spends all the time 'working' on processes that have nothing to do with FS.---- D. January 16, 201115 yr I use Gamebooster all the time, I'm no expert and can't really vouch how it will affect your system, but I believe it helps. If you try it ,make sure all programs that are not needed by FS are checked, but be aware that if you fly online, it may close your anti virus / spyware, so you may want to re-start that. I've not experienced any problems and even use it when installing other programs. Worth a try anyway.
January 16, 201115 yr Gerry, In principle, I agree with Scoob. However, if it would make any 'noticeable' difference on YOUR PC when optimising the Windows OS for FS9 usage, greatly depends on your PC (i.e. CPU, installed memory, etc.. and the amount of resident "garbage processes" installed over time).Personally, I believe that if you have a modern mid-range PC (today's standards), trying to optimise it for FS9 other then a fresh OS / FS9 install, is a waste of time. Including Gamebooster.Unless you're interrested in the final, single digit FPS gain. (check your own signature ...LoL)Just MO of course :( Rob
January 16, 201115 yr On my old computer with XP I found closing a lot of utilities helped, but for the last year with a new computre and Win7 I get such good performance (running addon planes and scenery, plus Active sky, Proflight Emulator) that I dont have the need for a performance boost. The one thing that did stump me recently was after an install of an airport I got terrible frame rates. I took me a while but I eventually realised it was a cumulus cloud texture installed by the randomiser in Flight Environment that caused it. Peter Peter Schluter
January 16, 201115 yr Author haha, i state we should boycott frames, not that i did :)i just think that my system laty hasnt seem to been running up to par, yes it is a family system so alot of garbage on there,im running a dual core amd 2.4ghz with 4 gigs of ram, and an ati hd4530 with 1024 mb of memory, now i know that the vid card isnt the greatest but i would think that i should be able to run fs relatively well, but for some reason i noticed that with sliders mid range im only getting about 20 frames, which i would think i should be ablemto run it a little better than that.i dont think my system ismconfigured properly thats why i am wondering about gamebooster, but as tjere is a litemversion i will give it a shot. January 16, 201115 yr Hello,I agree with the rcbarend remarks. In fact the "processes" (at least those used by the OS) are consuming a very tiny amount of memory (a average comit memory of 270-340 MO will be good when you check with the task manager for performances when your PC is iddle ) and a more tiny part of the CPU power (practically nil!)The most important for running smoothly FS2004 (no or less stutters) is to stop programs running in background (garbage as some call them .. ) who are not essentials for FS2004 .. and overall .. stop any security program who inspect files and folders on a regular basis ...This include some auto update processes and also the realtime scan of antivirus-antimalwares.Those can be usually set for avoid the scan of the files and folders involved by FS2004 .. thank's to the exclusions options included in those security softwares. For more FPS usually you need more Ghz ...Hope it's help you to set at best your PC.Regards.Gus.
