Using HD TV as a FSX Monitor

Featured Replies

How do I connect a HD TV to my computer to run FSX?I have already tried to hook up a 720P Sanyo 32 inch TV to my Saphire HD 4650 video card via a HDMI plug with very limited success. I got the desktop once but nothing after that. I did not have a cord that plugs into the PC slot on the TV because my "Real" monitor uses a digital cable that will not fit the TV plug. I even reset the video card output to match the lower resolution of the TV and still no video. Are TVs only set up to take input via that PC plug and not a HDMI? I hate to only get a 23-24 inch monitor when I could for about $100 more get a larger screen and TV combo.Any suggestions why the TV might not like the video input from the computer?Terry

Try and hook it up via DVI-HDMI connector and then set your picture to 1:1 or "Just Scan".

What does a DVI-HDMI do for me?The DVI does not plug into the TV does it? I think the TV has a real old computer monitor connector what ever it was called and I know it is not like the digital connector I currently use to run from the computer to the 19" ADI monitor. Then what is the 1 .1 or scan only mean? Does this tell the TV a computer is plugged in? I thought the HDMI was the Holy Grail of all connectors for these new flat screen TVs

I mean DVI to HDMI adapter. Plug the DVI side into the computer, and connect the HDMI plug into the connector. The 1:1 or "Just Scan" in your TV's picture menu (if one of these options is available to you) will allow you to eliminate the overscan inherent to TV's.What model of TV do you have?

If your card is like this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102829), then you simply connect it to your HDTV with a good quality HDMI to HDMI cable.Since your HDTV is limited to 720p vertical resolution, you'll need to reconfigure your Windows video driver to provide the correct output resolution (1280x720x32), AND reconfigure FSX's resolution to match what you've set in Windows.Since you've stated that you got it to work once, it's clear that it is possible. Your task now is to set it up to work all the time...

I have a feeling that FSX at 1280x720x32 on a large HD TV is not going to look pretty... :Worried:

My card is similar but has 1 gig of ram instead of 512 Mb. I tried all of hose settings and I could never get the desk top screen of Windows XP pro to come back on the TV. I do not want to screw up my dad's TV testing a computer hook up.The only reason I have been asking about this is I have seen in other posts where people rave about how the FSX looks on their wide screen TVs. I do not have a computer shop that I can go get info like I had when I lived in ABQ.. Here in FWA all they have is Box stores like Best Buys and if you find a comp repair shop they look at you like what do you want.I cannot see out of one eye and the other is not working too well so going to as large of screen as possible is important to having a good computer experience.Terry
