February 9, 201115 yr First, thanks for looking this over. I searched for a good while before crying uncle and requesting help.1. I am trying to simply change the AI traffic textures to RW airlines using downloads from this site and others. 1st question is this. Is there a special location in FSX where you need to change/add aircraft textures to have the AI traffic come up with the new files? I am confused because I got one of the textures I downloaded to work for the B738. I figured you merely change or add to the textures in the FSX/Simobject/Airplane/(aircraft of choice) files?2. If I am right, then I do not get where I am going wrong with the texture changes. I have made sure to do so per the instructions in each file I downloaded. I have updated the aircraft.cfg files in each aircraft I am trying to change, as well as making sure they are pointing to the correct texture. For example a Southwest texture I am trying to get FSX to display on the AI traffic, calls for the texture file to be called texture.southwest_b for the blue scheme and texture.southwest_g for the gold/red scheme. The aircraft.cfg file was updated per instructions, and looks just like the the other texture calls. Yet it does not work. However the Delta file I downloaded does work. It is the only one that does. I even have it being called Delta (****) in realtime as I updated the airline.cfg file to call it Delta instead of World Travel. I am simply lost because the others are set up exactly as the one that is working. Is it simply corrupt files I downloaded? :( 3. I am new at this so I know it is something I am doing or not doing. :( I would appreciate a tip or two, or a point in the right direction to a nice "how to" if anyone has one. IF need be I can upload some screenshots of how I am set up if that would help clarify. THANKS!! Respectfully, Jet
February 9, 201115 yr Do you also have a traffic file for the Southwest aircraft? Without traffic files, nothing will display.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
February 9, 201115 yr A couple of things I would suggest -a. Get a copy of this following tutorial which will help you understand how Traffic files are written - it was done for FS2004 but the concepts are the same in FSX:http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=mike+stanton&CatID=fs2004&Go=Searchb. Regardless of the Traffic file you are using (default or something you have added), the aircraft to be used are specified in the aircraft.txt element of it. The traffic file has to be decompiled to see the three elements (aircraft, airports and flightplans). They look for a match on the title= line of every aircraft (or variation) you have installed. So if the Traffic file (the aircraft portion) calls for something like AC#1,300,"Boeing 737-800 Paint1", only the aircraft which has Boeing 737-800 Paint1 on the title= line will be used. That may seem like so much "gibberish" but once you have studied the Tutorial I recommended it will make sense. It is important that every title= line must be unique - as an example you cannot add a SW variation and have it use the same title= line as one of the default entries. You may wish to consider installing the real world Traffic packages from World of AI - simple and easy to do and they are free. If interested, this is a link to the WOAI site:http://www.world-of-ai.com/Hope that is not too confusing.
February 9, 201115 yr Moderator The drop-dead simplest way would be to replace the default textures for the aircraft with realistic liveries. By doing it this way, you don't even need to modify the traffic files! :( Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
February 9, 201115 yr Author Thanks so much for the response!! I did find where I was having problems. If anyone needs help on this please email me. I jotted down some notes on this as I may need them in the future. I will have to try that whole tutorial out Opa. That looks great. Looks like fun once you get that working. Respectfully, Jet
