Duplicate airport finder

Featured Replies

Hello all.I just read the thread 'Duplicate texture finder' and it reminded me that I can't get ScanAFD to work with my setup. I have a lot of addon scenery in foders outside of my main FS9 folder (though all on the same logical drive) and while ScanAFD will search default locations' Afcads quite happily, it stalls and effectively hangs when I ask for a full airport scan.Do you have any suggestions for a repair, work-around or, preferably, an alternative? Thanks.Dave

I have not had that problem with Scan Afd Dave - it does take quite awhile to scan everything I have installed (many outside of the normal locations) but sooner or later the screen does come up showing what "might" be dulplicate afcads. Of course not all are actual duplicates - some have other airport data in them. Are you sure you are just not waiting long enough?I am on on an XP system so if you are running something else there could be a problem I suppose.

I am the same as Dave - I have many sceneries outside the normal folders and it always finds them. And I'm running Win7 X64 - no problemIan

Are you sure ScanAFD hang up when you try to find the duplicate AFCAD? Because this program should take you some minutes and during that time it can be shown as "not responding".Just like when you start Fs2004 with bunch of addons :)

ScanAFD to my knowledge is for afd property files. What does this have to do with finding duplicate textures? No, I didn't read the thread but if it applies to textures please post the thread link.

Set up a shortcut to ScanAFD.exe and in its advanced properties set security to Run As Admin so it has access to all folders. While in VISTA you can turn off User Access Control in Win 7 turning this off does not disable all protection.See if it still hangs. In any add-on security application you might have insure that ScanAFD is allowed to bypass it. Some applications look at disk access frequency and will think a consistent disk scan as a virus like activity.

Make sure that you're using the latest version too. Check here...I'm using the beta and it works just fine.http://www.nwlink.com/~erog/Mark

What does this have to do with finding duplicate textures?
Duplicate airport finder... and it reminded me that...Thanks everyone. Maybe I'm not leaving it long enough. I've about 250 scenery layers, 180 or so of which contain at least one airport so maybe you're right though I'd have thought an hour would be long enough. I'll try it overnight and see what happens.I guess I should also get the latest version; thanks for the link Swoop.Regards,Dave

Hello again.I had a bit of a play around with my scenery layers last night, disabled them all then restored them a few at a time. I didn't fancy leaving ScanAFD running overnight as the Task Manager showed 100% CPU usage while it was failing to get anywhere. Flat-out for nine hours might have killed it and socket 478 PGAs are increasingly difficult to find!ScanAFD was stalling. The problem-child was Catania_Fontanarossa_2009 (which I had from the library here if anyone else wishes to investigate further...). Once that layer was removed it whipped through the lot in about 30 seconds, a huge improvement on no result after more than an hour. I've no idea what the specific problem was- it'll be a while before I visit Sicily so I've just deleted the layer for now and left it at that.Happily the only duplicates were three airports I'd put into an elevation-correction layer. Thanks all for letting me know that it does work, else I would never have looked.Kind regards,Dave
