February 13, 201115 yr I've searched around for this, but found conflicting info. What I'm wanting to do, is leverage my two GTX580's and use Nvidia Surround for three new monitors, though I have not settled on a resolution. I would like to get 3 matching 1600x1200 monitors, but am aware that this is a fading aspect ratio. We'll see. I'm somewhat disturbed to read from Nvidia's site, that FSX doesn't support landscape mode (this can't be right), and doesn't support bezel management resolutions (this is the one I'm curious about). For those of you using Nvidia Surround, does the bezel management feature work with FSX OK? Has anyone tried FSX with Nvidia Surround in portrait mode...with bezel management? In this Avsim thread, another user reported using bezel management, but I see that the official Nvidia website says differently. Any clarifying comments on the subject from those using this technology are appreciated. February 14, 201115 yr I'm running 2x GTX 580s in surround with 3 26" monitors in landscape mode and it works fine. Bezel management works also (just creates a new resolution to use). I would assume portrait mode works as well. Russell Johnston

Has anyone tried this with this in mind? February 14, 201115 yr Yep. Once you run the bezel correction right after applying surround mode, the new resolution is created and shows up in the FSX settings.I just went ahead and tested FSX out in portrait mode and it worked fine. Although I like the idea of the portrait mode, I think I prefer landscape, as the portrait mode got a little claustrophobic to me and I like how the peripherals in landscape mode give a sense of speed and actually being there. I'll bet there are others wondering the same thing.I imagine 3 screens, particularly if they are 16:9 could look too narrow. I think 4:3 screens might look better. Or 5 screens; I've seen that configuration but my guess is that's just too many pixels for FSX to push. Maybe not, but it would clearly fall into the "excessive" category. Not that that's a bad thing. :P As far as Nvidia's spec sheet, looks like the Nvidia site is just wrong. Go figure. February 15, 201115 yr Commercial Member I will be shortly starting using 3 24 inch monitors and 2 GTX580's, so this is all interesting stuff... plenty to experiment with. How easy was it for you to get it all set up? I had a look in the NVidia control panel, but could not see any sections for NV surround. This is with a fairly current driver, 266 something I think...Cheers,Mark
February 16, 201115 yr Mark,You'll need to enable it in the nVidia control panel. It's under the 3D Settings in the Configure SLI, PhysX, Surround options. Under SLI configuration you'll want to select Span displays with Surround. Make sure you install the SLI bridge on your cards or it won't work.-Jason Jason Fiset jasonf on ts3.digitalthemepark.com @jfiset

If this works I am interested is doing this. Cheers, Scott Ball
March 1, 201115 yr Not totally sure what you guys want to see.First one is the SLI dialogue for span. Second is the alignment dialogue. Third is the new resolutions in FSX. Fourth is photo of result Regards Howard H D Isaacs

If this works I am interested is doing this.I'm pretty sure the post above is what you are looking for. His set up is pretty much the same as mine, but I don't curve my screens due to the image stretching experienced on the far left and right screens (since I'm looking at the screens at an angle, they kind of cancel each other out).Portrait would be the same thing, just sideways. July 27, 201114 yr So, to bump an old thread, I'm currently using 3 1680x1050 monitors with softth and bezel management. However, I'm having some interesting problems with FSX- I cannot open sub-windows with softth enabled. Like if I open the 'aircraft' dialog or the FSUIPC options after the sim is running, it is invisible (but the sim pauses as usual)- Once I go full screen, I am stuck. It runs fine, but if I go back to windowed all I get is black, and then if I go to fullscreen again it is also black- only fix is to restart FS- The mouse on the side monitors is displaced by the bezel correction. If I click on virtual cockpit controls on the main monitor, it is fine. If I try and click on things on say the right monitor, I need to click a bit to the right of the actual control (the displacement is the same as the size of the bezel)- Antialiasing doesn't work in full screen mode (I have set it using various permutations of nvidiaInspector, normal Nvidia control panel, and FSX)The sim is still playable and having the three monitors is great, I use it a lot. However, I'm thinking of upgrading to an SLI setup sooner or later, and was wondering if any of you can comment on/confirm whether these issues are not present when using proper nVidia surround?BTW looking at DescendDescend's screenshot, I could never handle the difference in perspective caused by angling the side monitors. That's because the computer thinks it is rendering on one big flat screen. If it was a flat screen, then the far edges of the monitors would be furthest away from you, but with the screens angled, they are the closest. Alternately, with the screens angled the visual angle subtended by each pixel on the side monitors is vastly larger than with one big flatscreen. Or alternately again, the computer thinks the vanishing point of the image is in the middle of the main monitor, but angling the side monitors means there are 3 different vanishing points. Anyways, I found that putting the monitors in a straight line, while less visually impressive, made the image just *look* right and confused my brain less/made the illusion of one big screen more complete. July 30, 201114 yr Author Papagoos Although I didn't end up using Nvidia Surround in my final setup, I did test it extensively, and did not encounter any of the side effects you cited. I used different monitors in various configurations including portrait. I would suspect that these issues you are having are due to SoftTH. I ended up using TH2go + DH2go + 2 more screens with 2 GTX580's not in SLI. With Nvidia Surround, I could only run three screens, not the seven I currently use. I mostly fly with 2D panels. When I fly with VC and TIR, I use a single 30" 2560x1600 Dell in place of the TH2go screens to get more vertical pixels - one of the shortcomings of using VC for me. This was why I was pursuing using using monitors in portrait earlier in this thread - trying to get more vertical pixels for VC. Good luck. July 30, 201114 yr Thanks for that Gumps. I've had mixed results with softth, some programs work better than others. Great to hear that this is a problem with softth and not with FSX itself! September 13, 201114 yr And for the record, now that I have my second GTX570, I can confirm that all of my previous problems have vanished. I also saw an increase in FPS of about 5 (from say 20 to 25)- there was also a significant increase in smoothness that improved the simulation beyond the increase in FPS Romesh Abeysuriya i5-2500K @ 4.8GHz, GTX570 @ 860MHz, 8GB Gskill Ripjaws-X, XSPC Rasa RX240 WC, Antec 300 (Internal radiator mod)
