February 15, 201115 yr Well I'll tell you what. If I get the last board & you lose out I'll buy your AoA training for the NGX. Fair enough?Tim Steele needs no training....HAHA.....If you get the last board you can just buy me the NGX!?!?!?Just kidding, all I would require, if that's the case, would be for you to simply let me know how your FSX experience has improved, Mainly in the 747 aspect. Currently at KJFK I'm gettin' between 7-13 FPS on the ground, better in the air, and when I'm doing test flights with the 747-8 in the California desert and in Washington, I'm lookin at 20+. This build is FSX only for me, as I dont play any other game.....but hey, maybe I'll start if I can get this system up and running to the standards that I am looking for......I might need more ram tho....I dont kno, I bought 4GB's (2 2GB sticks), but I know FSX will not hit 2GB's under "normal" use, so I should be fine......IF not.....more RAM it is, no big deal. Your offer is beyond generous, I will not turn down AoA training, as it is a kind gesture. Do not feel obligated to do so my friend, In the fast paced world of PC's I will accept defeat, and just wish you the best with your system, and hope you have many many hours, of smooth frames ahead. To be honest if I really cared I'd wait & spend my $250 on a mainboard that's been 'fixed'. Yes I say mainboard, not motherboard. It's technically more correct in my old school mind because the motherboard has never conceived, let alone given birth to a sound card or video card... OK, the onboard video could be considered a ###### child, but that's beside the point. At this point I don't even know if I'll get the board yet, but if I do & you don't over a 30min period I'll feel bad for some inexplicable reason. OK, maybe not inexplicable, Corona makes me nice like that. I generally run KDFW to KLAS in the 744, both airports are FSDT addons & my ground experience at KDFW is pretty rough. Once airborne it's great & KLAS is no probem, but sometimes at DFW the taxi lights disappear & that makes it hard to hold short 17R. Who am I kidding, just getting to 17R is a challenge with no lights on the taxiways...EDIT: I don't bother checking frame rates because it's all perception in my mind. (that's a whole other argument I don't have the willpower to take on) I can go through the startup using trackIR without getting a headache at kdfw so it's tolerable, but you can tell it isn't really all that smooth until I'm up in the air & away from the FSDT addon. Then it's smooth as silk. Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64
February 15, 201115 yr Its just hard to know if the right decision has been made. Intel is only gearing their response to people who already have the "mainboard" HAHA that's funny stuff right there.....but if the asus p8p67 is what they say it is, i wouldn't put conception past it. Intel has not said anything relating to what options people have that DONT have it, other than saying the chipsets will be sent to manufactures sometime in late Feb, and full volume recovery by april. Regardless, If luck should serve us well, we'll both be tweaking a high end system in the coming week or so. And If we made the mistake of buying this thing before its fixed......then well....oh well. If utilizing the 6Gb/s SATA ports is going to cause this thing NO PROBLEMS then i really have nothig to worry about. In the 2-3 years that intel says "might" cause the 3Gb/s SATA ports (which I wouldnt have been using anyway) to degrade, there will have been atleast 3-5 new processors, and "mainboard" releases. If what one does now, works well, then the need to upgrade is less important. You never know, Maybe Central Computers will honor the recall and allow me to ship this to them when the new boards become available, at the cost of shipping. And if not, I will have 4 6Gb/s SATA ports, I only have one 2TB HDD that I know I will NEVER fill up. And one CD/DVD R+RW drive......that leaves me with 2 more options in the future which I know I will never use. 2TB's might be normal to some, but to me its HUGE. This PC (my Dell XPS 420) came with 500GB of free space, and at its fullest, before I cleaned house, was only 75% full. I feel like a hypocrite though, because in earlier threads I have made the remarks about wanting to be 100% sure that I have a defect-less board, well I'm taking that back. After countless hours reading forum after forum, Intel's take, Newegg tv's take, and from many other sites with information, I have concluted that this is;A.) A reletively minor problem Due to the fact that there are 2 different SATA port options, of which only one is effected.B.) I'm comefortable in my computer knowledge where I can address and troubleshoot an issue if one were to arise.C.) I might still be able to get the new board if Central Computers honors the recall.D.) I really HATE waiting. Now if Intel said that ALL SATA ports "could" be effected.......then I would have waited. February 15, 201115 yr Author That's terrible. I'm so sorry. I wish you the best.Thank you, I'm undergoing treatment, and this is making me miss school, I am very tired, but I caught it early, I'm basically on the road to recovery. Many thanks to the St. Judes Children Hospital. Thanks again for the advice guys, after I'm finished with my medical bills I can worry on my i7 :( and any updates coming my way. Also guys, because of this am I now unable to become a pilot?

Any sort of recurrence that would require radiation/chemo would suspend you until the treatment is over & you're back up to 100%. (as far as I know, and that's only 2nd hand info)Pancreatic is among the worst/deadliest forms of cancer. If you're doing as well as you say then you're actually doing REALLY well! A former boss of mine was diagnosed with fairly advanced pancreatic cancer about 2 years ago & he's still just as mean today as the day I met him!May I ask what sort of treatments you're receiving? My doctor was telling mum about risks faced to actually get to the pancreas, I have no set surgery date, and if anyone has ever had this type of cancer on this forum and had it removed via surgery, can you shed some light on how it went? I've had appendicitis, that's the only surgery I've had and it's so scary. I've occupied my mind by reading some surgery stories, And I read some thing about people awaking during surgery . Oh dear! But guys no worries, I'm sure I will be okay, God keep me safe and the NGX :(
February 19, 201115 yr The odds of something like that happening are probably similar to finding the NGX installer in you email inbox tomorrow morning free of charge. While technically not impossible, the odds are very slim.Surgery always has its risks, but if it were me I'd probably go with whatever the doc recommends. He's a little more knowledgeable and objective than the patient. Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64
February 19, 201115 yr Have you looked at the review/benchmark sites? The 2600K crushes the older i7s except for the 980X (which it still beat in many scenarios) and now this new 990X. The question you have to ask yourself is whether spending $700+ more for the 990X is going to get you anything that's actually worth paying that much more. I'm almost positive the answer is no.I second that .got my i5 (!!) 2500k (so not even the i7 and LOVE this beast. so smooth. with REX and PMDG747/JS41 and various aerosoft airports like EDDM and EDDF. SB outperforms the I7 980X in any app that will not take advantage of the two extra cores... like FSX @Jamalje, wish you all the best and really hope you fully recover very soon
February 20, 201115 yr Just a small question. I'm quite satisfied with my new system (i7 [email protected], P67 Sabertooth, Mugen 2b, 8Gbram @ 9-9-9-28). I still use my "old" GTX 280. What would be the benefit of upgrading to a 570? Is there a gain of FPS? Would it be worth the investment? Thanks,Christopher VolleWhat screen resolution are you running?Best Regards,Bert Van Bulck

February 25, 201115 yr Just a note for those of you considering ordering an i7 2600k or recently did. Given all the online OC guides that will get 4.8+ GHz, don't be disappointed if you hit the wall before that. It's a luck of the draw sort of the thing & only about 50% (according to what I've found online) can break 4.4-4.6. I was unfortunate enough to hit the wall at 4.4. Doesn't matter if I'm running 1.2v or 1.5v, 4.4GHz is my limit. But you know what? 4.4GHz is still pretty stinking fast!! It never breaks 40c with my cooler either.
