February 24, 201115 yr I have had both these programmes installed for years, but using them together or separately and with a whole range of 'recommended' settings (tempered by the comments in the programmes' Readme files) I can't seem to make them work. On approach to LEMG just now, an AI a/c flew right in front of me and landed about 30" ahead of my a/c. Surely one of these programmes is supposed to turn that a/c away. The a/c showed in the 'Explorer' window of AISeparation, but not in 'Conflicts'. All too often I have to pause the sim, increase the sim rate to 8x and then go back to normal flight. Not much point having the two programmes running..Has anyone got settings that work for them? I've looked at so many threads on this, for instance:http://us.generation-nt.com/answer/ai-smooth-help-200387871.html?page=3(though not recently), so I'd appreciate some advice. The two programmes should work side by side, no? February 24, 201115 yr I only use AISmooth and I think you should only use one at a time.Try to use AISmooth only, it works for me all the time:smile:However,it only control the AI that is recognized by ATC. I sometimes have AI aircrafts flying from nowhere landing along with me and so AISmooth can't do anything with that a/c. February 24, 201115 yr AI Smooth should be used alone with the User Plane Response checked. You'll probably get a conflict using both as each uses the slew mode and they can conflict with each other.Be sure you have AIS version 1.20 (which now comes with a manual) and provides some enhancements and fixes. It is compatible with FSX as well as FS9 and is in the FSX utility section here.AIS uses FSUIPC (it should register itself). Get the latest FSUIPC3 links below:----------------------Get the base FSUIPC version from:http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.htmland then interim update from the modules link on this page:http://forum.simflight.com/forum/142-download-links/FSUIPC now self installs initially based on your registry entry for your FS path. Check that with this free utility:FSX/FS9 Registry Repair Tool (36KB) from http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library
February 24, 201115 yr Author Thanks - though as I say, I have in the past tried each programme alone with not much better results. I can only but try again (the article in the link I posted does say both progammes can be used together - though he may be incorrect in that of course).Do the AISmooth settings look Ok in themselves?M. February 24, 201115 yr Martin, I've been using both programs together for more than two years with no obvious problems. I tried this after reading some tips from Dave Sheffield. He has a good tutorial here at AvSim named manual.zip (dated 9/28/08) that explains his reasoning for revising the default settings on both programs to make them work together.I can remember only two times when I was number one for landing and an AI overtook and passed me. Happily, both times the tower told the AI to go around and all was well. Rather entertaining at the same time. By the way, I have crashes turned off so when they fly right through me nothing bad happens.I'm no expert on the subject of AI control. Perhaps the two programs do not work together without Mr. Sheffields revisions. Or, maybe you've already used his revisions and they didn't work well. I prefer perfection, but with the AI I've learned to put up with some craziness.Regards,JerryH
February 24, 201115 yr Author Thanks a lot for the reply. I saw mention of this 'manual' but the links in the threads I was reading had been deleted, so will get it from the library here. yes, both AIS & FSUIPC in current versions..M. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)

I would not have thought to look in the FSX section. I will go and get it right now as I do use it and would like the latest version and definitely would like to have a manual so I can really set it up properly
February 25, 201115 yr Yes. Very Similar. I let RC separate user/AI aircraft on final so I have User Aircraft not chercked. Separation on final is a bit more for my testing purposes. Thanks - though as I say, I have in the past tried each programme alone with not much better results. February 26, 201115 yr Author Having followed through all the instructions in the 'manual' & 'Tipp's & Tweak's' (sic!) files - very useful- I set about a couple of flights. I thought the programmes were not doing their stuff as there was an a/c into EGKK only a mile or so ahead, but eventually ATC told it to abort its landing and I was next in line, so I suppose that things are working.. a bit early to say after so few flights probably, but looks promising.AI Smooth:Distance of AI aircraft to landing aircraft 5.000000Distance of user aircraft to landing aircraft 5.000000Heading range for intercept <°> 1Global Approach Fix Distance 0.000000Minimum Separation Time 1User plane response OnShow ATC messages OffMinimum IFR Holding Altitude 1000.000000Landing Release Altitude 3.000000Minimum centerline distance 0.000000Poll interval 1000Control Batchsize 5Command Delay 50Reduce speed on approach OffUse dynamic speed table OnSpeak ATC messages OffAI Separation:Min Separation 6Desired Separation 8Refresh Rate= 5HDG Difference= 20No move zone= 5Reduced Separation= 35M. February 27, 201115 yr I use Mr Sheffield's implementation of both programs, and I'm very happy with how it manages AI (within the crazy limitations of FSX's AI engine) to add some order to the AI behavior on approach into busy hubs. When I used to use AISmooth exclusively, AI would be sent into holds and never leave the holds, thereby there were few or no planes on approach!!But with the recommendations in the "tips and tricks" tutorial, adding AI Separation to work in conjunction with AISmooth, I have a healthy amount of AI on approach and if their are conflicts with other AI or my own plane on approach, they are usually slewed out of the way. I must admit I find the slewing of AI unpleasant to see, but given the poor AI engine behavior in FSX, it's the best we can achieve. I do see the same amount of traffic sent into holds for eternity, but not as many are being are being sent into that limbo and I do notice more planes on approach, properly spaced. AI Smooth on its own is not the answer, I am thankful for Mr. Sheffield's experiment and find the AI experience so much more nicer. A.J. Domingo
