March 1, 201115 yr I have no idea either, I did it just to benchmark....at 750MB/s read and 500MB/s write that SSD is fast enough, way to much money for FSX (5 > 8 more FPS?) but I wanted it...I don't belive in over kill............
March 1, 201115 yr 5 - 8 more FPS? many would kill for that! It's actually a surprise to me that you got a performance boost out of a storage upgrade. Never thought that would be the case. Under whart circumstances do you see that performance boost or it an across the board thing? When I got my VRap the gain in FPS was 0%. I also tested an SSD (OCZ Vertex 2), same thing

I also tested an SSD (OCZ Vertex 2), same thingNot sure how but I saw a difference between this SSD and my Vrap.Faster scenery loading, no blurries, scenery does not catch up with the plane when flying = faster FSX......Is FSX perfect....nop....but it a lot better compare to my Vrap. Maybe because the system does not have to wait on the data delivery so it can work on something else.Whwn flying over Orbx scenery with sliders maxed out (but water and car traffic) my FPS stays in the 40 (average) at unlimited and when dropping in the 20 ish I don't see any stutterings cause by the fluctuation of the FPS.......I'll make a vid. soon. with the FPS ounter on........
March 1, 201115 yr And what addons please? UTX? UT2? MyTraffic?...PNW, REX, ENB, here is a 30sec vid. I made before buying Fraps, the counter was not enable, also keep in mind that recording with Fraps will cut your FPS by 1/3 easy and on the top of it Youtube vid. show some stutterings I do not have in the original vid...The vid are smooth as it can be with Fraps and youtube, no editing. best view on 720P full screen. Another one,
March 1, 201115 yr Hey Alainneedle, Great to see you! Was wondering how you made out with the Z Drive. The days of hardware tech talk being dismissed at such and such brought me over here. Saving to get a Z drive myself. Any tips to install it? Glad to find a place to talk hardware for FSX. LOL I'm just playing with you man, computer > right click on the drive > properties > General > at the bottom tick both box....and voila....work for me.Here is the baby.... http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820227520It's not about FSX taking advantage, it's about how fast can you deliver the data, also with an SSD PCI-e you are taking the Sata bottleneck out of the equation....
March 1, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the info this turned into quite the discussion, since ill have to wait for a motherboard anyways maybe the price on ssd will drop a little. Any info on if the NickN guide is the best setup or does FSX run fine know without the tweaks since the cpu have jumped up so much.

Hi! man, nice to see you here, I still go to the other forum once or twice a day to see if they have some update or patch for what I already have, I will never write there again unless something goes wrong with the addons, nothing personal with anybody over there, I just did not like to see so many good peoples having (including me) their post deleted for NO good reason. Will your SSD be a PCI-e one?Let me know when you get it cause you will have to enable ACHI, here is some good tips on how to do it... http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/61869-ahci-enable-windows-7-vista.html?filter[2]=Performance Maintenance =Performance"]http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/70822-ssd-tweaks-optimizations-windows-7-a.html?filter[2]=Performance
March 2, 201115 yr I think SSDs are revolutionary. All my programs run faster.I still have my Vraps for storage, but my OS and FSX are on their own SSDs.I'm very happy with my upgrade. MSFS
March 2, 201115 yr Getting this when available for FSX http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-z-drive-r3-p84-pci-express-ssd.html Got this for the boot drive OCZ Vertex 2 Extended Sandforce 60GB 2.5IN SATA2 Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD. Got all the parts to build new computer, K 2600, Asus P8P67 MB, Coolermaster HAF 922, Enermax 1020W PS, GTX 580, etc etc. Got a 256MB SSD Samsung drive until the Z Drive R3 becomes available. Been a little low on energy, so the build is all talk no action. After work, look at the stuff in the boxes, get something to eat then go to bed or go online and fly, then go to bed. FSX is a fantastic hobby, so I save, buy what I can, save more, and spend it. FSX will keep me broke, but having fun in the mean time. The PCI SSD seems the way to go. Expensive, yes, but in reality, less than $2.00 per day to own over a 2 year period. My posts were deleted also, but the hardware party is here and my main interest is hardware, so I will plant my tent here.
