November 15, 200322 yr Is anyone else hearing a rhythmic 'tick' or 'click' sound from the Maule's engine? It occurs once every few seconds at full throttle, and less frequently at lower throttle settings? The 'tick' is heard on two completely different PCs that are running different operating systems so I am fairly certain that it is not being caused by my own hardware or software setup. And, it occurs at all three levels of sound quality.Any thoughts on how to eliminate this annoying sound will be greatly appreciated.Nice aircraft, huh?Robert
November 16, 200322 yr Hi Robert,Yes, I hear it too. There are two provided sound sets. The Amphibian uses sound.2 and the rest use sound.1 I don't hear the tick while flying the amphibian. Therefore the tick we hear must be in sound.1 but I'm blowed if I can work out which wave file is implicated. I entertained the fond hope of substituting the equivalent file from sound.2 but this may not be effective as the sound volume has been recorded at a lower level. So, it may not sound realistic. Each wave file plays fine without a tick so I can only assume that this noise occurs at the end of the offending file, i.e. at the cutoff point of the recording. If you manage to identify the file let me know. I gave up before completing the exercise as it's now long past my bedtime - a hazard encountered frequently by FS obsessives like myself...LOL ;)Mike :-wave
November 16, 200322 yr Jeez, I'm glad I'm not the only one hearing this. I thought I had a sticky valve. :-)
November 19, 200322 yr Same problem here... tried both sound sets, but only real fix was for me to alias the sound.cfg to my trusty Archer sounds. Now all is well.BTW, also had to add the radio section to the aircraft.cfg to get the radios to update the standby and not the active frequencies..Neat airplane, though! Bert
November 19, 200322 yr I found three engine sound files that had barely perceptible but definitely audible clicks at the beginning. I edited them ever so slightly and now I get no pops at all in the sounds. I put the three files into a zip, and would be happy to share if you want them. Just drop me an email.thanks,
November 19, 200322 yr If you open the *.wav files of sound.1 in a sound / wav editor you will see some of the engin sounds have a small pause at the end of the file. If you run the file continiously it makes the click sound. All I did was to delete the small pause at the end of the *.wav file and the click sound is gone.As easy as that.RegardsTerblanche
November 19, 200322 yr Ben, copy the Radio section from an existing aircraft.. the lines are added to the bottom of the aircraft.cfg file..The key is the second "1", for "standby frequency"(Radios) // replace brackets with square brackets!// Radio Type = active, standby frequency, has glide slopeAudio.1 = 1Com.1 = 1, 1Com.2 = 1, 1Nav.1 = 1, 1, 1Nav.2 = 1, 1, 0Adf.1 = 1Transponder.1 = 1Marker.1 = 1 Bert
November 19, 200322 yr Hi Barry,I used Creative Wave Studio - not strictly freeware, unless you count being included with your Audigy card as being free. The files involved (all in sound.1) are:m3.wav - select and cut a very small section at the start of the file. Then save it (backup the original, of course)m4.wav - dittoxm3.wav - select and cut a very small section at the end of the file. Then save it after backing up the original.xm4.wav - dittoMike
November 20, 200322 yr Bert,I've never liked using radio frequencies in any sim (for years :-)) - just too hard on my eyes.I've never seen anything like the clarity of this radio in 2D and even at any angle in the virtual cockpit of this radio - amazing.Anyhow thanks again for your tip.Ben
November 20, 200322 yr I don't know of any good freeware editor. I use Adobe Audition (replaced CoolEdit) and I find that by far superior over any other editor. Worth every sent.T
