Trouble reading pln files

Featured Replies

Hi.I used rc4 for a long time last year on this system without any issues. After not doing much simming for a while i recently set down to do a flight and had some troubles with rc4 showing errors when i first started it up. unfortunately i didn't write these down, but rather decided to do a fresh reinstall, also putting it on a new secondary drive and re-registering etc.unfortunately, now when i run the app, it starts up ok, but as soon as i load a flight plan it shows the following error "Run-time error '7':Out of memory". it seems to happen when importing any .pln file i've tried.i'm pretty sure i have enough memory (task manager shows around 5 gigs unused)..it used to work fine with fsx and everything running..system is windows7 64-bit. i don't know if it matters but it's fsuipc 4.664, makerwys 4.41 (ran clean with no errors), rc4 version 4.3.3845, run in administrator mode..thanks for any advice for diagnosing this issue.cheers,-andy crsoby

i tried your suggestions (i found a newer makerwys of 4.43) but it still throws the error, and log stops in same spot.for testing i also tried using an older version of fsuipc (4.60) but the error remains in both cases.is there something else i can do to help identify the issue? since it used to work, i figure it must be something to other changes i have made elsewhere..but i think the only other vb app i use is fsbuild.. i did update that to a newer version a month or two back but i'm not sure if that install would change any of the shared libs for the worse, or why a re-install of rc4 wouldn't set them back. i tried reinstalling again just to see and that didn't do anything either..thanks for the help.cheers,-andy crosby

Does RC know how to read a FSX XML flightplan?DJ
rc version 4.3 does.did you rebuild the rc scenery database after installing the new makerwys.exe in the root directory of fsx? don't run the makerwys.exe manually. you have to press the rebuild rc scenery database button in rcmake a log again, and send it to me. make sure you click debug before loading the .plnjd

To clarify, as soon as you load the plan into RC4 with nothing else running, it throws the error. I loaded your plan pasted from your log and it loaded OK under XP. (I don't even have FSX, just FS9, so it is reading this plan OK.) Of course my scenery database is different from yours. If that's all you are doing then FSUIPC has nothing to do with it unless you start FS and then after loading the plan you start RC.I looks like your scenery database is not correct as the plan appears to be read but stalls on getting scenery information out of RC. Under your data folder RC there are two files of interest here:r4.csv and a4.csv. r4.csv is copied froom r5.csv in your FSX folder and a4.csv is built from that. After starting the scenery database rebuild from within RC4 (and makerwys 4.41 or better is in your FSX folder) the r5.csv file in your FSX folder and your r4.csv and a4.csv files in your rcv4X folder should have current date-time attributes.Let's try this (and don't save anything):In your FSX folder with notepad or wordpad (not Excel) with word wrap off open r5.csv. Search for your KGRB. Here's what you should see roughly:KGRB,0060,44.482426,-88.138084,695,62.070,7700,109.50BDG,150,-2.200,44.487728,-88.125282,0,,KGRB,0180,44.493813,-88.133659,695,182.120,8701,0,150,-2.200,44.481880,-88.133636,500,,KGRB,0240,44.493031,-88.112480,695,242.070,7700,0,150,-2.200,44.487728,-88.125282,0,,KGRB,0360,44.469948,-88.133614,695,2.120,8701,109.90BG,150,-2.200,44.481880,-88.133636,0,,Now close that file and in your RCV4X\data folder do the same for r4.csv and it should look similar:KGRB,0060,44.482426,-88.138084,695,62.070,7700,109.50BDG,150,-2.200,44.487728,-88.125282,0,,KGRB,0180,44.493813,-88.133659,695,182.120,8701,0,150,-2.200,44.481880,-88.133636,500,,KGRB,0240,44.493031,-88.112480,695,242.070,7700,0,150,-2.200,44.487728,-88.125282,0,,KGRB,0360,44.469948,-88.133614,695,2.120,8701,109.90BG,150,-2.200,44.481880,-88.133636,0,,Close that and in that same data file open a4.csv searching for KGRB:KGRB, , 44.4848 ,-88.12946 , 2.2 , 695 , 8701Now this is FS9 but FSX scenery should give similar results. Again, my entries are from FS9 default scenery. If your rebuild did not go well then remember that there are two ways of starting RC as an admin in Win 7. The first is having a shortcut to it with the shortcut advanced properties sett to run as admin. The second is each time to right click on rcv4.exe and then choose run as admin. I don't have Win 7 but look for those security assignments. I also have seen it documented that in Win 7 turning off UAC (user access control) does NOT remove all of those restrictions unlike VISTA.Let us know how you do here with a reply.Without starting FS here's as far as I got in the debug log:debug onRC Version 4.3.3843 June 6, 2006H:\rcv4\rcv4.exe<fs2kplanner> C:\Documents and Settings\Ron Ginsberg\My Documents\Flight Simulator hello!ok.. tried ray's flight plan and it gave the same error.i am definitely running makerwys from within radar contact, and admin privileges are enabled. it looks like the timestamps in rcv4x/data for a4.csv and r4.csv are correctly updating when i do this.i also checked per ronzie's instructions the entries in those files and they look very similar to his, other than slight differences in the data values which are probably to be expected, for example:KPTK, , 42.66533 ,-83.4175 , 4 , 980 , 6190 to see if my scenery is at issue i uninstalled the handful of scenery layers i've added in recent times and rebuilt in fsx, then ran makerwys again in rc, but it still gives the error.jd, i will email the log and .pln file ...i'm not sure if it really shows anything different than the one i posted, it just stops after this section: <get_departure_information> KGRB </get_departure_information> KGRB <get_arrival_information> KPTK </get_arrival_information> KPTKthanks for all the help guys. i'm thoroughly puzzled.cheers,-andy crosby

Andy,Is this with a 3rd party aircraft or a default one? Might be worth trying a default one if you haven't already done so.Also, don't run anything else like weather programs. Just FSX and RC4. See if that makes a difference.

the error happens on import (the progress bar shows 3 dots each time)... so it occurs even if i don't have fsx or anything running at all.. it isn't getting far enough to the point where i can start the connection to fsx.i also reproduced it while having fsx loaded with the deafault ultralight and realair duke turbine.cheers,-andy crosby

did you send me the log, and the .pln?have you changed any files in the \data directory? adding/changing a frequency, adding a runway?send me your rcv3.dat file from the root directory of rc. and the keyboard.dat file.
