Voice command API

Number 2... the code for 3 I've written so many times it wouldn't even take 30 minutes. On top of that I could use any existing .NET (30 or so) Lanagues if I stuck with number 2 :)
You mean, It would take 30 minutes to a gifted progammer to integrate Speech within Flight ? That's a good news !As for the programming langage, the FS SDK can be used with any .Net langage (just as the Windows SDK) as is. And can be binded with other langage as well. I used to have a python binding for SimConnect.

No no.. just what you said... enumerating, adding the gui(combobox), and then selecting the device, and polling it... :) Very very common practice if you stick to standards set out in the Windows SDK. And you are right simconnect can be used by all the CLR/.NET languages.. which is a good thing.. but guages no, though i'm not 100% sure on that one.

FYI, VoxATC and FS2Crew run side-by-side perfectly with no problems; I've done it personally.
This is a good news. How does it work ? I mean, when you say to your co-pilot "gear-up", you don't have VoxATC complaining ? Or do you have different switches that let you speak to one or the other addon ?One more time, I don't want MS to add any crew simulation or advanced ATC to Flight. I would like them to ease the developpment and integration of voice user interface addons.

microsoft is in the habit of intergrating addons features into new versions of their simulators. Like the camera views from active camera of fs2004 that found its way into fsx. I think a voice option would be a nice addition into the core of flight. Maybe in future HF and SELCAL could be included.

Since VoxATC is all about ATC, I don't recall VoxATC having a 'gear up' command??? After all, that's not ATC related.Maybe I'm using an older version?Cheers,

Camera views are something that casual users (Microsoft's target group) can understand, relate to and enjoy. That's why they were likely included in FSX.Modelling HF, SELCAL, etc., is something that would appeal to 'enthusiast' users, which is why you'll probably always have to rely on 3rd party devs for that kind of stuff. It's like why Microsoft will never include a 'systems simulator' like a PMDG style plane in their product. The Microsoft programmers are more than capable of creating a true systems simulator if they wanted to, but it's not their target market, and it would probably cost them too much money in terms of added support costs.Cheers,

No it does not have a "gear up" command and that 's the reason why it could be complaining (of an unknown command). Do you have different switches that let you speak to one or the other addon ?

Many other features that have been called for here fall into the same category and are of no interest to the target market.

I think I do understand SamSam’s point. However, Microsoft has already done a great job with the speech SDK for the Windows platform. There is no need to re-invent the wheel. What the devs need to do is make sure they play fair with the speech engine.A selfish dev would grab the whole speech engine for his application, denying other apps access to it.For this reason Multi Crew Experience voice control add-on for FSX & FS9 is designed to operate in two modes. One is “exclusive mode” when the user wants MCE to be the only speech application running, and a “shared mode” when other voice based applications need to run alongside it.Small detail, but so crucial to successful operation of more than one voice add-on.Gerald R.http://www.multicrewxp.com

Thanks for trying to understand me ! What about a single call API :SimConnect_RegisterGrammar(LPCWSTR pszCommandAndControlFileName, ISpNotifyCallback* pCallback, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam)where the implementation of ISpNotifyCallback is your core business.Flight would be in charge of the RecoContext (one by addon) and the audio settings. A command key could be assigned to an addon (think multiple push to talk buttons), and the audio dispatched to the context/addon accordingly.Would that be to restrictive ?

micosoft speech and microsoft flight are 2 different platforms. Addons like fs2crew bridge these two for a more imersive experience. The question now is what does mircosoft add to flight to make it sellable to a wider audience? Imo i just thought speaking to the sim would look good on the ads for flight for those first timers to flightsim.

I think they should implement a voice command API, it would be... interesting, if it turns out successful, fluent and believable... I could really enjoy it ! smile.gif The only other game that I can think of that has achieved this very well is Tom Clancy's EndWar™, and that did it extremely well ... I would also say that in-game, it had various more things that you had to say than you would usually say in a flight , so it is definitely achievable... with good accuracy too. (EndWar™ had great accuracy in recognising what you were saying through the microphone)Jamie ♥

Project FireBird, the future of flight simulation.

*btw, when using the term 'game' it is an umbrella term, it also includes simulation and racing games, and everything in-between. Do not twist my words.

"A video game is an electronic form of play that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device" - the definition of the word "videogame", game is the common shorthand for videogame. Just being clear.
