April 14, 201115 yr Concerning bummed chip - very nice from Intel to exchange it, cuz it can also be burned through first OC you did. That's what I'm wondering. 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next
April 14, 201115 yr Now this kinda gives me some thoughts... could my problems be a CPU!!?? I exchanged boards, I exchanged RAM... but I CAN NOT get stable Memtest. It crashes, no matter what setting. Asus doesn't know what's wrong... It could be the board, I gotta visit a shop where I bought the mobo, they will test another mainboard. But could it really be that simple? CPU... hmmmm....Funny thing is, Windows = all stable, 100% @ 5Ghz.
April 14, 201115 yr If it passes prime blend and Linx + AVX, I wouldn't worry too muchI will try memtest 4.2 later today and will get back to you Word Not Allowed
April 14, 201115 yr If it passes prime blend and Linx + AVX, I wouldn't worry too muchI will try memtest 4.2 later today and will get back to you Word Not AllowedThanks Dario.Um, what is AVX?
April 14, 201115 yr AVX Is something newer than SSE and requires the "Sandy Bridge" version of the Intel i7 processor. Is it supposed to be some stability tester? Link?
April 14, 201115 yr Yes, it's a new instruction set. There'a an AVX compliant Linpack implementation available for Win 7 since SP1 hereIt's strange: with HT off GFlops and temps are much higher Yo need Linx, then overwrite the linpack_xeon32.exe and linpack_xeon64.exe with the ones in the that link
April 14, 201115 yr Author Hey, so it happened to you too! I also managed to damage one of the pins... and the shop agreed to replace me the motherboard without any cost!Concerning bummed chip - very nice from Intel to exchange it, cuz it can also be burned through first OC you did.Yeah, a piece of lint fell into the socket and damaged a pin trying to remove it. Boy are they fragile!! Intel was very nice...they didn't even ask me if I had overclocked. Asus on the other hand said that any pin damage voids the warranty no questions asked. I've had about 8 mbs from Asus over the years. Don't think they will be my first choice in the future. I hope ASRock is ok. Board has a lot of cool features that are usually found on much more expensive boards...We'll see.Don't think I burned the chip overclocking. Worked fine until I swapped it to the other board...May have gotten some thermal grease on one of the contacts or something. Very strange. Steve Giblin
April 14, 201115 yr Did you manage to do a Memtest? I'm really interested in your result.I will a bit later. Promised
April 14, 201115 yr I couldn't get the Intel CPU Diagnostics to run on my CPU 2600K, fails at BCLK. States clock is at 100, which happens to be optimal for Sandy Bridge. Others reported same problem.. Would have been nice to have though...Only problem I had is OC with stock cooler, FSX runs a tad warm with a stock fan. I couldn't run Prime more than a minute or two.Good luck with that replacement CPU... CPU: i7-2600k (3.8GHz HT OFF @ 1.40v) Mobo: ASUS P8P67 Rev. April 14, 201115 yr I will a bit later. PromisedThanks.I tried AVX.It's warming the CPU quite much more than any other stability testing program. What's the deal with this? Also multi is dropping while testing, usually from 50x to 44x or 45x. What's up with that? I guess its EIST working, but still the CPU is max usage...OC with stock cooler...If you like burning your CPU, go ahead. Worst idea ever...

I guess its EIST working, but still the CPU is max usage...If you like burning your CPU, go ahead. Worst idea ever...I told you, it's a lot more demanding. It also needs like 0.03 more Vcore than Prime in my system to pass. What temps do you have there? with 5GHz and 1.49V I'm pretty sure you are hitting 90ºC+ and thermal throttle is lowering your multi. It's not EIST, just thermal protection probably.Anyway, using this to stress test is probably too much. I like it to test initial OC settings since it takes little time, but for fine tuning my OC I keep using Prime I think that's where mine failed too...Very close to beginning of test....I hope my chip was bad...If new one does the same thing I don't know what I'll do.I will also run the Intel Diagnose Tool now. But first Memtest ^_^
