It depends on what airline SOP you want to follow. A general rule is US airlines use lbs and Europe,Middle East and far east use KG

I'm pretty sure you only need to change it within the PMDG options.Regards

a ok. SETTINGS FSX does not touch any parameter?

why does some airlines use imperial? Cause metric is more accurate. People say imperial is uncivilized. If metric is more accurate why use imperial?

Hi captainklm. After reading your post with some amusement, I fail to see how metric is more accurate than imperial. Surely a metre (spelt the uk way) is 39 inches or 3ft 3 inches. How is this not an accurate measurement. Is 1013 mb more accurate than 29.92 inches of mercury? We all seem happy to fly to an altitude in feet (except the Russians in metres)What is a pain in the neck, is working out gallons, as an US gallon is different from a uk gallon. Also I believe the US uses ft/lbs for torque and Europe uses Nm for torque. One is not more accurate than the other just a different system. In my opinion I have a passion for standardisation, watching Air Crash Investigation, I belive there was a fatal crash when all involved got their sums wrong converting between gallons and Litres, cannot remember the exact details.Same with lots of things, the power system 110Volts versus 230 Volts and so it goes on, standardisation is the key.posted just for funtake careJohn Calleja, armchair pilot.

I watched that episode. The name was "Falling from the Sky: Flight 174" It was about an Air Canada 767 that had only half of the fuel needed to fly the leg from Montreal to Edmonton, fact that caused both engines to stop in the middle of the flight. That airplane was then named Gimli Glider because the pilot could successfully literally glide the plane to an abandoned airbase named Gimli. The "fuel guy" failed to make some units conversions and instead of 22,300Kg of fuel, the guy boarded 22,300Lbs and then the pilots failed to check if the appropriate fuel quantity was aboard. Fortunatelly, all the passengers and crew members survived and that 767 returned to service. The plane was retired in 2008.And although imperial system is not widely used around the world (only in the US and UK), it is still more accurate than metric units in terms of weight and distance because most of the imperial measures represents fractions of the metrics. For example, 1 foot is approximately 1/3 of a meter. 1 pound is about half of a kilogram. 1 yard is equal to 0,91m. The exceptions are the mile, which correspond to 1,6Km and the inch, that measures approximately 2,5cm.Regarding volume, the metric system is more accurate, because the gallon, for example, depending on the type, can range from 3,8 to 4,5 liters. And regarding temperature, the Farenheit scale is more accurate than the Celcius because each variation of 1ºF is correspondent to a variation of about 0,5 to 0,6ºC.

I beg to differ, the measurement unit of anything has nothing to do with precision of that measurement. They are totally different issues. One can have a tolerance of 0.2 mm which is the same as 0.0002 m. Same precision, different units.
