March 31, 201115 yr Have you ever seen inside the PFC? The engineering is superb, but the 6 'pistons' which are moved in and out by the quadrant levers are not so good.I am very frustrated because I have (had?!) some pics on file showing the inside of my console. I wanted to share them with you, but my aged memory and filing system are denying me that. I'll try it with words. Each piston rod can be pulled out of the unit and reinserted easily. You could do that and clean them before replacing, but I suspect something other than dirt. I recall that when my console was new I had similar trouble. It turned out that a delicate piece of pressed metal, which forms an internal lever moved by the piston, was bent. The metal is soft and it was easy for me to straighten it. Snag! - you have to go into the case to do it.I reason this way because your modified quadrant is presumably at the idle position, but only the right throttle is so positioned. Presumably when you move the throttles forward the screen shows them similarly out of line - or does the relative position change? What do you think? Is it worth an exploratory? It is very easy to get the casing off. There are quite a lot of small screws to undo ( and re-do when you've done) but the only risk you take is losing the screws :( Regards Frank Jones
March 31, 201115 yr Author Ok i'll give that a try, never took it apart but sure changed a pile of broken springs in the yoke though. Don't know when i'll take it apart, but i did clean the piston rods before buy it didn't help so now i'll have to get under there and take it completely out - ok then -- oh do you have the p3edals from PFC? March 31, 201115 yr Sorry you asked that before. Yes - I have the Cirrus pedals. Just had a problem with them :( . Turned out to be a broken wiring connection. Here are some pics Regards Frank Jones
March 31, 201115 yr Author Wow one of the nicest i've seen, most of them have wires hanging all over the place and looks like a rat's nest, your's is one of the few i see that is nice and tidy, and wires all tied back neatly and can't see them (the way it should) I notice your like me and have the yoke tucked under and not on top. Very nice and classy looking i must say .Now that consel you have ,do you fly jets and props? what i mean is is it set up to fly jet's and props cause that's why i don't have a full cockpit cause i don't want to be in a trap where have to fly just one model. March 31, 201115 yr That is niiice set up mani wouldnt like to guess what that cost ! :( Regards Luke M
March 31, 201115 yr Thanks for those kind words. Spook - as to cost: me neither. In fact, I'm trying to forget it :( Louis - The desk was built to my design by a carpenter friend. It has been modified 3 or 4 times, the latest being to turn it around so that the screens back onto the window. The daylight was creating havoc with the TrackIR5. You may have noticed that the action shot was a different way round from the other two. My intention from the outset was to avoid building a replica cockpit. I felt it would be too limiting. I've never regretted that decision as I can fly slow and low, or jet high & long distance without feeling that the 'tools' were wrong. My favourite flying is the PMDG747 ( but another expense! - the software to run the autopilot). I also like to fly the Captain757, but my CPFlight A/P doesn't work with that at all. On the GA side I like Carenado's 182RG. For old times sake I occasionally fly the Tiger Moth in which I learned to fly back in 1948. Regards Frank Jones
March 31, 201115 yr Author ' 48 wow i was born that year . Your idea of not being limited to a repica cockpit is the same as me in that regards. i sent you an e-mail i'll forward what PFC sent me .My next thing is i want 3 monitors set up like you have. I noticed right away that your deck was custom cause i made mine to fit also. Louis Massicotte Caroline Alberta
April 1, 201115 yr Did you notice too that I have a fourth monitor above the left of the main three? I run FSCommander on my 'general use' computer, linked by WideFS, and displayed on that screen. My 'flying' computer is custom built and dedicated to FSX. FSC is an excellent replacement for the much loved FSNavigator, but unlike that it is not free - what is these days :( Frank Regards Frank Jones
April 1, 201115 yr Here are some picsDude... What is that white keypad-looking device below the middle monitor?
April 1, 201115 yr Hi TraconWhen I bought it in 2002 it was called Z-keys Pro58 Keypad. It was marketed by Zak Morris in Vista California. AFAIK they don't sell it now, but I believe it was and is a product called X-Keys, marketed by ZM with the different name under licence. Here's the X-Keys URL:http://www.piengineering.com/xkeys.php?gclid=CMnnk5zW-6cCFYEc4QodG0h7rgAlso here's a close up of how I use mine. I wouldn't be without it. Regards Frank Jones
