I'm in the same boat as Tor except I am now at 4.7 with 1.355 and stable in prime95 for hours on with max temps reaching low 60s. But even to get to 4.8 seems to require a big jump in vcore. It doesn't seem to be worth it for the extra 100hz. I haven't tried vcore past 1.41 yet, maybe I'll try 1.45 to see what it does.Tor, could you psot your specs? Thanks

When I get my i5-2500k I will be very happy with 4.6-4.7 GHZ. I think this is suffice for FSX.

Best regards, Steffen

Yes, it definitely does if well supported by a GPU - check my last result in the FSXMark11 list.I even found out that I should stock-clock my GTX580, I get lower FPS with it overclocked! Go figure!

Holy cow! Very good results. Makes me wanting my new CPU right now!Btw. I´ve oc´ed my GPU from 576 MHz to 600 MHz and I think this gave me a bit better framewise.

Best regards, Steffen

Yeah definitely, I was actually suprised to surpass HLJames and shoot over 50fps with 400mhz lower clock and less mhz on RAM. But hey - the results are there. I just ran 4 tests right now.Maybe the driver... I installed new beta driver yesterday.

Well, I tried 1.45 in vcore and I got to 5ghz. http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd491/flytrumpet/Untitled.jpgI went to FSX directly to test and all was fine. I didn't really see a major difference in performance from 4.7. I came out of FSX and checked the max temp recorded by core temp and it was about 60, which is about 10 degrees warmer than when I'm at 4.7. I then started a prime95 blend test (as you see on the screenshot) but after about 15 seconds (which barely gave me time to take the screenshot) it BSOD.I think I will leave it at 4.7 and try to lower my vcore even more (now at 1.35). My next step will be to upgrade my GPU...yikes, my wife is not going to like that...

Most 2600Ks need 1.5V+ to keep stable 5Ghz. 1.45V is way too low. It's true, there is not much difference between 4.5 and 4.8, maybe couple of frames.Seems like you have a bit better chip then mine, though not a golden sample either.

Well, mine is a I5 2500k, but it really seems from what I see that those 2 chips are pretty much identical when it comes to speed. Going stable to 5Ghz is definately not something that is worth running temps 10-15 degrees hotter when playing FSX (to me anyway), especially for getting 45fps at FSDT KFLL at 4.7Ghz with sliders at very dense instead of 48 at 5GHZ... :Big Grin: I think it's the end of the SB tweaking for me(hopefully)...now back to flying.

Well... I'm right now testing, but I think I just reached what I was aiming for:4096 textures, 8.5 on LOD, high AA (SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12), very heavy weather, PMDG VC = 40fps.Still gotta do some ground testing, but this is passing really well.Furthermore: OCing GPU for FSX is pure nonsense. Heavy AA/AF, heavy weather, at a big airport, frames stock 30, frames OC to 940/2240, NO CHANGE at all. All tested on the fly.

Sure:i5 2500K @ 4.6 Ghz 1.345 VAsus P8P67 B34 Gb GSkill Ripjaws 7-8-7-24 1T @ 1.58125 V (not sure if 1.60 is OK with SB..)Asus GTX 460 Top 1 Gb (new, burned the last one, ouch!) now only mildly o´clocked.Corsair TX650Coolermaster Hyper 212+Coolermaster HAF AdvancedWindows 7 64 bit

Uhm, how did you manage to burn a graphic card? Too high temps? I can't get mine over 45degrees! I got it to the max, which is around 950/2250... doesn't go any higher.

Yeah, but what about "spikes" and overall IQ etc.?

Thanks, I see that we have very similar systems and we seem to get very close results.I have done more testing and it seems the sweet spot for me will be 4.7Ghz with 1.355 vcore. Which isn't too bad I guess...My next big upgrade will be a new GPU, but that will have to wait a while....

Yes, very similar set-up, and I regret having bought the GTX460, not good enough for the i5 2500K IMO...

I didn't notice any at stock. I will keep an open eye and see if they can be eliminated by an overclock, IF they happen.IQ? No difference... Same FPS even at high IQ (8xSQ, 32xS and that SUPERVCAA_64X_8v8 tested).

Nah, I see also that GTX580 is eating "almost" everything CPU can feed it... I see no real drops in performance, only if I crank the IQ insanely up.
