Testing underway...

Featured Replies

So initial testing is underway: I don't even intent on testing on default frequency - it goes like this: Boot with default, let install all drivers, go to BIOS, set 42, and reboot :Big Grin: Shall see how is stability coming.Gonna start FSX testing when I reach 4.6 at least or so. No point on going inbetween. Keep you posted on that one. Here couple of pics from the build, just for fun:I feel somewhat like a plumber

Looks great, Word Not Allowed. You were not kidding when you said you were doing WC - that's one serious setup. A bit too much paste on the CPU in my opinion, though.

Yeah, I got it years already, but constantly upgrading it - CPU cooler is new, and each GPU changes of course. A bit costly, but worth the silence.I always put initially a bit more, but scrape most of it away with a plastic card. I put more so that it's easier to make a nice film of paste.

Word Not Allowed- I assume the adjustable wrench is used to give the CPU a sharp rap when you need a few more GHz ?Is verbal threatening (or even muffled cursing) no longer preferred as the way to bring about improved performance?-----------(Some 50+ years ago, I watched with interest while our IBM service tech spent the morning performing the "screwdriver test" on our 607 vacuum tube "computer". Officially known as a CPC- Card Programmed Calculator- it was a marvellous contraption for its day in the early fifties.Connecting a meter to the socket pins of each tube, he watched the needle swing wildly as he rapped the glass tube with the handle of a screwdriver. If the needle swung too far, the tube was routinely replaced.Several hours later and with a few dozen new tubes in "plugable units", the machine was returned to us for normal? use. If we were lucky, perhaps a couple of days might elapse before another failure! And then the transistor arrived and spoiled all the fun!! All downhill from then on! Except nowadays they seem to use adjustable wrenches instead of screwdrivers.)AR

Hahaha, yeah, that's called tools of the trade :Big Grin: On the sidenote: I have troubles reaching 5Ghz. I can without problem get to 4.8, but it just won't kick the 5er limit. I wonder why... I tried up to 1.42 on the CPU. Also VccSO up to 1.15 (supposedly safe limit). 1.4 is suggested also as a safe limit, but I gave it a little budge, but still...Also turned off all thermal and power saving options I could find.Temps on the CPU are great though. I'm max doing around 63c (up to 70 if HT on) when [email protected]. I think I could run even lower voltages, but that's at later point to tweak.

Looks really good. If someone will probably do it right, you are one who does. really massive cooling. I thought my Scythe Mugen 2 is massive but...What´s this on the 3rd and 6th picture?Btw. what will be with your actual build?

Best regards, Steffen

Those are the graphic cards. On pic #3, its the Zotac GTX580 with a freshly mounted watercooler from Aquacomputer, and on pic #6, its just the same card beside my "old" GTX285.Already sold to a friend of mine (CPU, RAM, GPU and MOBO).

Ah, I thought so but they looked a bit unusual. I hope you made your friend a good offer.

Let me put it in the perspective: he got a really good price for a really great system (stable at VERY high overclocks), and he gonna get a build from me (I advised him to get Noctua D14).

If I had beed him I would have also taken your build with no worrying about.

It's a good friend of mine, he has all my old builds, since he wants that exactly: a good stable build with not much to worry. It's just that one older P4 right now started acting up, and well... I guess it was already its time (8years).

Stable 1hr Prime95 @ 4.8Ghz 1.41Vcore (temps around 65c), RAM @ 1866 CL9 (2133 is a no go, even with CL10), stock GTX580, driver 270.51:Min-------Max-------Avg26,000 - 70,000 - 41,79032,000 - 65,000 - 50,52029,000 - 67,500 - 51,963AVG:29,000 - 67,500 - 48,091Will post into thread and list when finished. One weird thing: can't seem to hit 5.0, CPU just won't budge, even with PLL Overvoltage enabled. I seem to be kicking a very hard multi-wall with this CPU. Rather unhappy with it... :Straight Face: I tried just for testsake auto vcore, and set multi 49 - loaded windows, and CPUID reported 1.616 on Vcore!!! I was very quick on the reset button  Performancewise - WOW.

Try these settings if you haven't already: VRM Frequency = ManualVRM Fixed Freq Mode = 370Phase Control = ExtremeDuty Control = ExtremeCPU Current Capability = 130%and disable C3 & C6 reportVccio max is 1.21V. Try that, but I don't think it will help much. If nothing works, it's probably the CPU, but to make sure I would downclock the RAM and try again

Tried. I managed now to get 50x into Windows Logo, but not further. I bumped up to 1.6 on Vcore fixed, still no go. So I'll let it to, wait for my Amazon chip, see how it does - test it without thermal grease just to see if it boots into 50x and at least 1.45, if not, its off, and I'm keeping 4.8 with the old one.I already tried with 1600 and 1333 on the RAM, XMP or not, different combos with power savings on and off, PLL Overvolt on and off... I can't think if anything else.It really seems like I'm hitting a hard wall at 4.9. 4.8 right now prime95stable for last 2 hours at 1.45. I know it's "rather" high, since everyone is around 1.35, but I'm thinking of just letting it burn. If it burns, OK, if doesn't, OK...

Interesting...Same with my i5 2500K, impossible to reach 5.0 or even 4.8, so I stay @ 4.6 and max. Volt 1.35.I guess the early buyers just got lucky, Spiritflyer, FunknNasty etc. - they are @ 5.0 and 5.2, weird...Hypnotized.gif
