737 NGX question

Featured Replies

Is there any news or update on the potential for an SDK for the new NGX? I would hate to see this usable by only 'desktop' simmers and not the many many cockpit builders. Fingers crossed while I wait like many others. :)Rob Archer

PMDG was talking about making an SDK when people were asking about Saitek controllers being more compatible. I don't know if this would also work for home cockpits as I don't make those. It's a money/time thing.

I guess it kinda makes sense from a time standpoint ,but i think it would only strengthen their market share by offering an SDK that would allow external interfacing with the 737NGX.just my .02 worth.Rob

The SDK will be there. I don't want you guys to think this is something it isn't though - this is a programming thing, it's not some easy way for end users to hook up all their hardware (I'm not even sure how that could possibly work). The SDK allows the hardware makers (driver programmers) to talk to the innards of the plane and its systems - do not expect all your hardware to work with the NGX out of the box, that's not possible. The hardware makers (if they so choose) will have to write drivers using the SDK to make the hardware work with the plane.

Indeed would be important. I plan to make a home cockpit as the NGX comes to life with CPflight hardware. I see it works fine with 747X and I hope it will be possible to do the same with the 737...Is the SDK in NGX similar to 747X to interface? On the fs9 version even the MIP was working fine, please PMDG don't leave cockpit builders alone! ;-)

Personally I think it's important. As a programmer, I think if the interface which SDK provides is flexible enough, which means we can get enough amounts of parameters out of it and set enough amounts of data, we can program the driver for our hardware and we can even append its function in the way we want (for example, make a QAR for it, program an ACARS by using FMC interface, etc...).Many many limitations in Flight Sim are actually caused by incomplete interface. A good example is weather... Why no one can model a realistic weather radar? Because actually what we can read from FSX are METARs of each weather station. We can only guess based on them, since we don't know where exactly FSX draws the clouds and its parameters (dimension, type...) Maybe you disagree, but at least I have no way to access those data. If you know how and don't consider it as your commercial secret, I can make a WX for you :)

If you know how to program and write a driver you'll be able to use the SDK to make your cockpit work - all I was saying is that this is not some magic solution that makes any user's hardware suddenly start working with the plane, it's just a description of how to write programs/drivers so that they can access the plane's functions and parameters.

I don't know if this is off topic or not, but will the SDK make FS2Crew voice commander possible without the annoying mini-popups?Thanks

Yes, Bryan should have full access to controlling the airplane without simulating mouse clicks.
