May 12, 201115 yr I hear so much praise about Open Clouds, but not FSRealWx Lite, and I was wondering why. FSRealWX has quite a few more options, including wind smoothing capabilities within the program itself, so no need for registered FSUIPC in this case. I use both, but I think I like FSRealWX better. Though I want to hear what others have to say. Also, wanted to thank both authors for these nice little freeware utilities.http://www.rs-transline.de/index.php?page=self&id=2# Jeff Commercial | Instrument | Multi-Engine Land AMD 5600X, RTX3070, 32MB RAM, 2TB SSD
May 12, 201115 yr Never heard of it so far. Thanks for the news, I will test it.From the options it looks really nice.
May 12, 201115 yr Have tried both, but tended to get more stutters from rwl when it updated the weather, There have being no updates in a while, so use open clouds more.
May 12, 201115 yr It could well be that the stuttering on weather updates is more of a Simconnect thingy than it is tool based. Even ASE shows it when not using the somehow workaround of the DWC mode (together with "global weather"). But this is more of a FSX problem, not one of the weather programs. And, so far, all smoothing attempts lead to this or that downside on another end.The flashing skies are also a side effect of weather updates, regardless of the weather program in use.
May 12, 201115 yr First I have heard of FSRealWx Lite. I use Open Clouds but will check it out for comparision. Jay
May 23, 201115 yr Isn't the unique benefit of Open Clouds is the way in which it treats mist and fog layers, so as to remove the sudden appearance, using a layer of cloud or something? One thing I noticed about Open Cluds and also FSRealwx, I tried them both on a networked (Simconnect clinr) computer and whilst both reported feeding the weather into FSX and clouds appeared, the wind direction and strencgth in FSX was not altered. Rex Weather Engine did however, affect the wind strngth and direction when run on the clinet, so I'm sticking with REX, despite it's cranky, silly and totally uninforming GUI.
