May 15, 201115 yr Hi guys (and girls),Been trying for the better part of an hour to add some freeware scenery to FSX, without success. Every time I try to add it via te menu in FSX, I double click on the folder the scenery is in and it just won't let me click on okay and add it to the list. So I tried to be sneaky and add it into the FSX scenery.cfg file. It still won't add the scenery. What do I do??? I'm using Windows 7 logged in as Admin. I always run FSX as Admin. Stuffed if I know what to do and it's starting to annoy the hell out of me.Here is what I added to scenery.cfg...[Area.121]Title=Coffs Harbour V3Local=Addon Scenery\Coffs Harbour V3Layer=121Active=TRUERequired=FALSE[Area.122]Title=Gold Coast (YBCG)Local=Addon Scenery\Gold Coast (YBCG)Layer=122Active=TRUERequired=FALSE[Area.123]Title=graftonLocal=Addon Scenery\graftonLayer=123Active=TRUERequired=FALSE[Area.124]Title=Grafton Land ClassLocal=Addon Scenery\Grafton Land ClassLayer=124Active=TRUERequired=FALSE Matthew Bellette
May 15, 201115 yr To add the scenery using the in-FSX add-on scenery library, you have to do a little workaround. Click on add-area like you normally would, then click on the folder you want to add, then click ok, then from there click on the white area where the folders are. Not a folder itself, just the white background. The area where I've scribbled red in this picture. It should then add the folder to your scenery library.
May 15, 201115 yr The way FSX works is that the scenery file must have two subdirectories "Scenery" and "Textures", even if textures is empty. If you try to add an area that does not have the two specific directories it will not work. Put all the scenery stuff inside a file titled "Scenery". Then put that folder into another folder that you may name whatever you want to. Also remember to add the Textures folder to this main folder. Then put the entire thing into your "FSX/Addon Scenery" directory, and add the area to FSX via the scenery library. Eric Vander Pilot and Controller Boston Virtual ATC KATL - The plural form of cow. May 15, 201115 yr I use this personally:http://www.byteforge.com/downloads/index.htmYou can easily add and manage scenery, planes, all kinds of addons. It is payware, although it seems fully functional with a nag screen when you run it. Adrian Burley London, UK

Really? That is news to those of us who have numerous scenery additions installed which do not have a texture folder. An empty texture folder has often been associated (rightly or wrongly) with "memory leaks". I have no idea if MS addressed/corrected that in FSX - so to be on the safe side I would not recommend ever having an empty texture folder.Just my experience.
May 15, 201115 yr Mike's suggestion worked. Stupid little quirk!!!It happens with the 64bit Opperating systems... Rónán O Cadhain.
May 17, 201115 yr Been trying for the better part of an hour to add some freeware scenery to FSX, without success.better wait until your wife (aka the better part) even disables payware sceneries. might be a bigger masterplan and end with disabling installation of payware airplanes like the ngx. you better talk to get this fixed before the release :( Phil Leaven i5 10600KF, 32 GB 3200 RAM, ASUS 4070 12GB EVO, Asus ROG Z490-H, 2 WD Black NVME for each Win11 (500GB) and MSFS (1TB), Rolling Cache 16GB, Photogrammetry always OFF, Live Weather and Live Traffic always ON, Res 2560x1440 on 27"
