I would not use it myself either Rich, I don't have an ATi graphics card, so pointless for me anyway.

FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33 & SmallPartRejectRadius=2 - useless after SP2 TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TRESS_PER_CEL=1200 & TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CEL=800 - may cause stutters

First I had an HD6970 --> then I got some weird problems causing my system to hard-reboot whenever I played FSX for about 5-15minutes --> running Furmark I could reproduce the issue perfectly --> conclusion was : my HD6970 is f?*!ed up so I am going to buy a GTX570 --> bought a Zotac GTX570 amp! Edition --> same reboots occure after 5-15minutes --> denial --> anger --> bargaining --> depression --> acceptance --> seems it was actually my 3year old Zalman 600W PSU which was causing the problem (-_-') --> bought a Corsair AX850 : problem solved. --> new problem pops up : which gfx card am I going to use? --> opportunity : now that I own both I could actually make some tests and see for myself if there is, like everybody seems to claim, a big difference between those 2 cards in terms of performance --> finetuning a specific fsx.cfg file for each card in order to try and get the most out of them --> After a couple of weeks of "playing around" it is becoming unclear to me what is actually meant by "ATI cannot do clouds!" or "do not use supersampling with ATI cards because performance will drop drastically..." because honestly in terms of IQ I am really unable to see any difference between the two cards... --> in addition to this, whenever I run a fraps benchmark (180sec lasting fsrecorder sequence in VC view) with each card the HD6970 is systematically giving better results (we are talking about 1 to 1.5 fps more on avg with lowest and highest fps values being the same) --> as it was taking dust for several weeks now, last week I finally sold my GTX570 to my best friend who upgraded to an i5 2500K system and wanted to upgrade his HD5850 --> I let him choose which card he would buy as I honestly didn't care which card I would use and he chose the nVidia card (he mainly plays FPS games so I thought he would actually choose the ATI card... go figure). I honestly think that the main reason for your system to stutter is actually your CPU's clock which is rather low (as already stated by Richard)Saying that the HD6970 (thus I am not saying "any ATI card") is not a good card for FSX is, to me, simply not true (I know I am making enemies right now by saying this but I am talking out of my own hands-on experience).Do I think that nVidia cards are "generally" better performers for FSX? Yes. my 2 (euro)cents...

My ATI 5870 can handle the NGX with ManhattanX and FSDT KJFK easily at reasonable settings. And compared to the GTX 480 that i wanted to buy instead some years ago it was rather cheap, too.
