May 25, 201115 yr I think PMDG's impending release of the NGX is probably causing a mini-spending spree on new PC's around the world! Just hope I'm in that spree! :( David David Stewart, Dianella, Western Australia. New PC coming one day! | In the meantime I fly with; AMD X64 1.2Ghz Dual Core | 6Gb Ram | 6600GT | Old case | FSX | REX | Superbug FA-18F | Capt Sim 767 | ORBX Aust Scenery | Jandakot | PC12 & numerous others.
May 25, 201115 yr Indeed it did. I just spent $4000 on a new computer just for the 737NGX. I hope my i7 990X and n-vidia 590 video card is not obsolete by the time the 737 is finally released! (not a dig - I am enjoying the PDMG 747 too much). It (new computer) is already 1 month old and I know something will be released toimorrow that'll blow it away. But I think I finally have enough horse power to run the New NGX. The PDMG 747 runs soooo smooth on it. Paul Gugliotta

The 590 has no effect in FSX because it's a dual GPU card - a single 580 will be faster. The $220 i5 2500K CPU will perform just as well as the 990X in FSX too. May 27, 201115 yr Glad to hear that, since I just bought myself a i7 2600K based machine. There's one thing I'd to ask you. I had trouble to see if 8GB DDR3 was going to be worth it, specially for gaming and FSX. Everybody told me it's a must if you work with computer graphics, but no so with games, and that nothing over 4GB should make a difference. I ended up buying 8GB, instead of a faster, lower latency 4GB. What's your opinion on this matter?Take care Alexis Mefano
May 27, 201115 yr Commercial Member 8GB in a 2x4GB configuration is what I would buy right now - it's so cheap there's no reason not to. FS won't benefit much from it but Windows itself potentially can, 64-bit aware games like DCS A-10C can etc... May 27, 201115 yr Yeah, I got them pretty cheap. I'm very happy my PC will be ready before the NGX is released, now It's just the Cooler Master HAF X and I'm ready to build the monster. Thanks for the feedback Alexis Mefano

The reason why I ask is because I'm looking at maybe replacing my XFX Geforce 295 GTX, a card I have been very happy with. I today use one 24" screen from Dell, and I'm thinking of adding maybe another two for something mainly non-flightsim related things. For this I have found the 590 to be perfect. Are you saying that I then will get less performance in FSX with a 590 than I would with a 580? As far as I know, the 590 has two cores of the same type that 580 have one of. Even if FSX is only able to utilize one of the cores, it still should perform at least equal to the 580. Or am I missing something here? Or am I missing something here?As Dario said above, the 590's core speed is 607MHz, the 580 runs at 772MHz. A single half of the 590 (which is what you'd be using in FSX essentially) is slower than a single GTX460 even in terms of clock speed. (it does have the same number of shader cores that the 580 has though). There's really no game out there that doesn't run extremely well at 1920X1200 on a single 580. The 590 or running true SLI with multiple cards is for people who want to run gigantic resolutions on 30"+ screens and stuff like that. You don't need multi-GPU to run two monitors - tons of people do that just fine off one card. If simming is your primary use of the video card, SLI/Crossfire is a waste - maybe this will change if Flight takes more advantage of the GPU, but no one knows yet. May 31, 201115 yr Ok. Thanks Dario and Ryan. I was actually not aware that each core is clocked that much down on dual GPU cards. I will maybe just get a 580 then. I could always add another 580 later as an SLI if required. I use the video card for both simming and some gaming, but both is mostly done on one 1920x1200 monitor, so that should be alright. And yes, I look forward to hearing about what the new MS Flight has "under the hood" :( Raymond Bergseng ENGM ________________________________ Asus P6T WS Professional, Intel Core i7 980X 3.33GHz (OC to 3.8), Zalman CNPS9700 NT CPU cooler, 12 GB OCZ Platinum XTC DDR3 1600MHz, EVGA GeForce GTX 580 "Superclocked Edition" 797MHz 1536MB, M-Audio Fast Track Ultra external USB soundcard, WD VelociRaptor 300GB SATA discs, Cooler Master Stacker nVidia Edition w/850W PSU, Dell UltraSharp 24" LCD, Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Logitech Ultra X Premium Keyboard, MX 518, Saitek Yoke and Rudder.
