I understood that religious views are not permitted on these forums yet BIGSKY's signature reads:"******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

Where does it say this, I did not see it in the terms of use policy or the faq regarding signature images. I f you really find what the user has posted that upsetting I suggest you go into your profile options and change your settings so you won't be able to view members signatures.

mgh,You could do a trial & error test by changing your sig. I agree with you that BIGSKY's sig is too much. Being a Scandinavian with a lot of Viking blood in my veins, I'm not too much into the christian religion. In a global perspective there are plenty of different Gods to choose between. It's like "standards" - I like standards - there are so many to choose between  In Sweden we have several holidays that are tied to christianity. Some time ago I read abouit a politician that proposed that every citizen should be given an amount of labour free days per year. Then every individual, muslim or christain or whatever, could choose on what days they want their own holiday. A good idea IMO.Regarding testing to change your sig, you could try:"The Devil is my Lord and Savior. As my loving Devil and Lord has protected and guided me..."or maybe"Allah is my Lord and Savior. As my loving..."My apologies to anyone that feel offended by my post. I ensure that I'll respect your religious believes as long as you respect mine

I'm just curious if you feel that this comment disrespects your religious beliefs? He not saying ******* Christ is your Lord and Saviour but rather his Lord and Saviour. I don't think he broke any written policy's from what I can see. Regardless the OP calling someone out in a forum like this is pure amateur hour.

No, he's not disrespecting my beliefs by the statement in his sig. That's true. But he haven't said that he respect other AVISM members beliefs either. So lets agree that we don't know wether he respect my beliefs or not. And how could he? Do you know what my beliefs are? Does BIGSKY respect a similar AVSIM member with a sig that praise Allah or Yahweh? For now we just don't know. (Apologies to all Jews for using your Gods name in this post - I know that your Gods name should not be used in this way. Sorry!).I don't care if he violated any AVSIM policy or not. I only responded to mgh's post. IMO we should all avoid to make religious and political statements. I'm sure there are plenty of other communities available on the net to provide all religious and political engaged simmers to express there beliefs. This is only my opinion. Your'e entitled to your opinion and I respect it. But I'm curious on how you came to the conclusion that I felt any disrespect for my beliefs? What do you know of BIGSKY's respect to other human beings beliefs and my beliefs?

I didn't come to any conclusion about your beliefs that's why I asked the question. You said you would respect other's beliefs if they respected yours. I was just curious if you felt the above sig in question disrespected any of your beliefs. I don't know the member Bigsky, he could be an axe murderer for all know, I just don't see any offensive material in his signature, and I'm sure if he went out of his way to disrespect or put down another's person's belief system the mods would deal with it. And I agree with your statement about threads discussing religion and politics but its not thread its just a forum signature which does not seem to violate any rules as far as I can see, maby I'm wrong, I'm sure the mods will determine whats best, but calling someone out like this as the OP did is not cool IMO.

You all make good points and for the record I am a communicant member of the Church of England. However because of the nature of these forums I understood that religious and political messsages are unacceptable. I do have reasons for this belief. Some time ago I posted in a discusion about grammar and whether a sentence can begin with the word "And.." To illustrate my point I quoted Chapter 1 of Genesis from the Authorised Version. of the bible This has 31 sentences - 29 of which begin with "And..." My quotation was deleted by Admin because it was deemed to be religious.

And now I'll rest my case

My apologies then mgh I was unsure of your intentions and really should have not responded to the thread at all, if their is a standard here it should be followed. I find other's belief systems interesting and little snipits of those belief's here and there are interesting to me, but now I see the point your trying to make.

Guys,What we have is a "prohibition" for lack of a better word, on proselytizing. Someone wishing god's blessing to you in their signature does not meet that prohibition. An "in your face" posting that attempts to recruit you to any faith / religion / creed, etc., will get removed in a heart beat. A signature such as Bigsky's is a no harm, no foul desire for blessing on your life. Oh, and before anyone leaps over the edge and accuses me of being (you fill in the blank), let me state that I believe in a supreme being. You put the label on him / her / it.

Was I proselytizing.when I quoted the bible to make a point in the context of discussion of the rules of English grammar - can a sentence begin with the word "And..."? It's the best example I know of in the English language - 31 sentences of which 29 do begin with the word. A classic book on English usage said "It's as good English now as it was the day it was written". Incidentally I don't literally believe what it says.

Just to add; as an atheist, I have no objection to BigSky's sig at all. I think people are entitled to hold, and to state, their own religious beliefs if they want to. At the same time, I agree with the site's ban on proselytising, which would basically be no more than holy spamEDIT: " Being a Scandinavian with a lot of Viking blood in my veins, I'm not too much into the christian religion."But weren't the Vikings Christians in later years? Or were they not really called Vikings by then?

But weren't the Vikings Christians in later years? Or were they not really called Vikings by then?
A quote from Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking - From the chapter The end of the Viking Age)
The assimilation of the nascent Scandinavian kingdoms into the cultural mainstream of European Christendom altered the aspirations of Scandinavian rulers and those Scandinavians able to travel overseas, and changed their relations with their neighbours. One of the primary sources of profit for the Vikings had been slave-taking. The medieval Church took the position that Christians should not own fellow Christians as slaves, so chattel slavery diminished as a practice throughout northern Europe. This took much of the economic incentive out of raiding, though sporadic slaving activity continued in the 11th century. Eventually, outright slavery was outlawed, and replaced with serfdom at the bottom rung of medieval society. Scandinavian predation in Christian lands around the North Sea and the Irish Sea diminished markedly.

Thanks Batting%20Eyelashes.gifIt's interesting that the Scandinavian lands that produced the Vikings, whose ferocity was legendary (even exaggerated?), eventually turned into some of the most "liberal" countries in the world.Maybe all the real badasses eventually killed each other in battle Big%20Grin.gif

Since the time of the Vikings the Scandinavian countries have been engaged in many different wars. Both against each other and as allies. During world war II the Danish and Norweigians fought agains Germany. The Finnish faught agains Russia, with some help from Swedish volunteers. Sweden stayed "neutral", but allowed the Germans to transport troops and equipment through Sweden to Norway. Sweden also shipped a lot of iron ore to Germany during the war.Today the Scandinavian countries are engaged in war activities in Afghanistan. Sweden, Denmark and Norway have their airforces engaged in Libya.
