June 2, 201115 yr Just watching a few build videos from Newegg and they recommend testing the system outside of the case (on the MB box) before installing into the case. The purpose is to ensure there are no DOA components. Just wondering if all of you do this ?thanks,Mark. Mark CYYZ
June 3, 201115 yr I've never done it.I did it once, but not for such purpose, but rather out of fun - I took it OUT of the case to play with it on the table :Big Grin:

Once it's in the case, it's in there for good unless I have to change something. I've still got an Athlon XP sitting in a case somewhere. Although I guess I did use that system up until about 2005, so it's not extremely old.
June 3, 201115 yr Thanks for your comments, not sure yet how I will proceed.Mark.I think both ways are correct. With my latest computer, I have wished I had air cooling and that I had done it externally. I had to replace a mainboard.Though usually there is no need for that.
June 3, 201115 yr As long as you're careful there's no good reason to build outside the case first, it's just a lot of extra work.
June 3, 201115 yr I've built about 8 pcs now and never done that, you will always have that moment of "pucker" when you first press the power button tho'

June 4, 201115 yr I wouldn't bother but do a minimum build and make sure you can get into the BIOS at least. I guess some boards are more designed to run caseless but IMHO it isn't that hard to mount an MB and connect up the case FP and HSF.scott s..
June 4, 201115 yr Author I wouldn't bother but do a minimum build and make sure you can get into the BIOS at least. I guess some boards are more designed to run caseless but IMHO it isn't that hard to mount an MB and connect up the case FP and HSF.scott s..Yes the Newegg guy just did a minimum build to make sure everything started ok. MB, RAM, Video Card in addition to the chip/cooler. BTW, Newegg has posted an excellent build series which uses the 2500K and 650D case. Great for beginners like me.http://www.youtube.com/user/newegg#p/u/2/lPIXAtNGGCw (Part 1 - Choosing components)..http://www.youtube.com/user/newegg#p/u/2/lPIXAtNGGCw (Part 2 - The build - 45 min video).Part 3 - Software Install, to be posted still.Mark.
