June 16, 201114 yr Having flown on a SNJ-5, a Harvard, and a TF-51D Mustang, I can tell you there is nothing like it. Not just the thrill of the performance of these aircraft, but when you think about the history behind them, it's awe inspiring to be allowed to take the controls on one!! June 16, 201114 yr A friend of my asked me to join in on an interview he did with a former WWII pilot and the old gent (R.G. Middlemiss)said the Harvard was the first plane he flew that made him go "wow". This was coing from a guy that flew everything from Spitfires to 104's! Once I heard that I jumped at the chance to fly in a Harvard (what we call Texans here in Canada).... Al Stiff
June 16, 201114 yr Many years ago I worked with Bill Bedford when he was Hawker's Chief Test Pilot for the P1127/Harrier. He'd flown Hurricanes, Thunderbolts, and Mustangs in combat during World War II. I asked him how their handling compared with the Hawker Hunter, then the RAF's front line aircraft. His comment was very succinct "they were b****y awful!" Gerry Howard
