Couldnt Wait Any Longer......

Just couldnt wait any longer, i was hoping the beta guys wouldve had the chance to talk about performance on their setups by now but it wasnt to be so i bought the following setup in readiness for the NGX. Any comments are appreciated, I included costs as well (this is in Australian dollars):Coolmaster HAF932 ATX Gaming Case 192.83ASUS Deluxe p67 285Intel Core i5-2500K 3.4GHz, Quad-Core, 6MB Smart Cache, Socket LGA1155 Processor 2198GB GSKILL RIPJAWS X DDR3-1600MHZ 8-8-8-24 Low Latency Memory in dual channel configuration 99ASUS GTX580 1536mb 532X-FI TITANIUM SOUND CARD 1062 X 2TB Western Digital Black Caviar 32mb Cache SATA III 6GB/s 342OCZ VERTEX2 240GB SATA II 3.5 SSD 425LG Blu Ray SATA Drive 99Custom Setup Corsair Hydro H70 Closed Loop Liquid Cooling Solution 149Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit 189Antec Quatro 1000W 225Labor 100 Total2962.83Hopefully after overclocking (im hoping for at least 4.8ghz) it should run orbx, pmdg ngx and a few other programs nicely. This computer will be connected to 3 projectors for side and front views of my home cockpit (via a triplehead2go). Let me know what you think.Mike Kendall

Mike,It would be very difficult (and of dubious value) to buy anything better than the system you bought - you're going to be fine with the NGX.

1000 thank yous Ryan, I really cant wait to get it. I just hope having the 4 windows i need open to run 180 degree external views out of the cockpit doesnt kill the fps too much. Im currently running a q6600 at 3.6ghz and at ybbn (orbx) in the default 737 i get 4 - 8 frames so is no point even trying to take off or land.Mike Kendall

Looks like a great system. For me, I will wait to see what the reviews and performance is before I buy it. The NGX looks truly awesome but if the FPS are bad unless you have the ultimate rig then it will be a nice picture that cant fly. I built this rig below in December 2010 in aticipation of the release of the PMDG 737NGX last year. I hope that my rig works:Intel i7-950, evga gtx 470 geforce, mobo evga x58 3x sli. 6ddr3 mem. If this does not, there is no way that I am spending for a processor such as the Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition ($1024.00 cost) just to fly a simulator. Now if I intend to build a home cockpit, then thats different. Once the NGX is release I will look to see what the reviews will be. If the majority complains about FPS then I will be very happy to continue flying the Airbus X, Jetstream 41 from PMDG which I am getting around 30 to 40 FPS. By the way I have the Concord X which cost me around $75 and I get around 17 FPS with fullterrain.com (obrx software). Good Luck.

Great system smile.gifTo be honest, when i saw the title i thought this was a post complaining about 'a specific date', and as a result you decided to buy 'something else that is competing' instead. I was mentally preparing my reply... rolleyes.gif

I was just wondering why you built a rig then especially when we knew the Sandy bridges were just about to be releasedJackColwill

LOL, i'll let you know how it runs on my rig after I get it in my hands. I would suspect that if it runs as well as their 747 that I own and get exceptional FPS with on my old rig, then yours rig will be able to run it fine.Although then again, I see a lot of posts from people with a lot better computers than what I have stuggling with performance problems. A while back some fellow with a newer rig than mine posted some FPS issues with the PMDG 747 at FSDT's KFJF were he was luckly to get 15 FPS. After we compared settings which were already pretty similar I posted some shots from me flying into/around the same aiport with the same a/c and was getting 30+ FPS, so it's really hard to say.I think a lot of it comes down to how optimized you have your rig and FS set up frankly, otherwise I would never be able to achieve the performance I get out of my old beater of a computer.Sean Campbell
