Hello wizards.I have a weird problem with a flightplan.Tried to generate a flightplan,KJFK-LSZH, using my FSC v9.It generated a plan that ended up being being over 6000+ miles, which was out of range of my PMDG MD-11.So,I reverted to my Trial AivlaSoft EFB as it can integrate flightplans created by VAT Route and Route Finder.Again,Route Finder came up with a weird flightplan exactly similar in waypoints, etc to FSC and that took me south of KJFK and headed South into the Atlantic to some place just North of the Canary Islands, and then ran up the Iberian Peninsula, through France and then into Switzerland.I know for a fact that most US-Europe routes go the Great Circle albeit via the NATS routes via Greenland,Iceland,Ireland,UK which is around 3500+,which was within fuel range of the MD-11.Oddly enough, when I did the LSZH-KJFK route on the out-flight,it went through the Great Circle route, and yet so off on the in-flight.Any ideas what is causing these two fine flightplanners to throw up such weird routes?

They have their own support forum. Why not try there?

Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)

One possible issue is way points with the same name that are 1000s of miles apart. Best thing is to let it generate the flight plan then remove the extra way points. Thats what I generally do.

Thanks for that suggestion.Yes,I did end up having to edit those flight plans.Luckily, with the FSC,I could actually see a graphical layout of the route and was thus able to eliminate the waypoints that I did not need. Not so with Route Finder.

Rick,In the RouteFinder form, did you choose NATs to be Enabled? They're disabled by default. Here are the routes it gave me without NATs - 6371 and 6325 nm, passing by Cape Verde:LSZH GERSA UN850 EVANO UM984 DIVKO UN975 BCN UM985 YES UN747 SVL UN857 LZR UN871 GDV UN873 IPERA UW43 SVT UW46 KENOX UN741 DIGUN UL435 BUTUX L435 FIVZE L375 KOZIK L435 BRKZZ L461 GUICE M325 AWSOM L457 OKONU L454 WEBBB B24 SIE KJFKKJFK SHERL L456 MARIG L461 BOVIC M591 PIREX L462 KOZIK L375 FIVZE L435 BUTUX UL435 BUXON UN866 APASO UN871 VJF L456 MAR UN871 BERSU LSZHHere are the routes it gave me with NATs - 3557 and 3447 nm, fairly great circle: LSZH GERSA Z50 KELIP UZ651 MANEG UL613 HOC UY9 RATUK UL613 SANDY UN57 WELIN UT420 TNT UL28 RODOL UP6 NELBO UN551 NIBOG RESNO 54N020W 53N030W 51N040W 50N050W KOBEV YQX N128B EBONY J573 ENE KJFKKJFK PUT J581 TOPPS N111B DOTTY CRONO 52N050W 53N040W 53N030W 52N020W DINIM ELSOX LULOX UN12 MABUG UL739 LIZAD UN160 PIGOP UN491 MELKO UM606 BLM LSZHRegards,

Hello FenricYou are a star.Thank you for that research. No,admittedly,I did not see that option in Route Finder for the NATS.I just rely so heavily on FSC to create my routes, and 8 times out of 10,it does deliver, that I thought it was the proverbial 'bees knees',and then when Route Finder came up with the same flightplan, more or less, but nevertheless same distance,I never thought of looking beyond what you have just provided me with.

With FSC ,make sure the GPS isn't connected before you do your flight plan. If you get one of those gazzilion mile routes using High Altitude plan make sure your fix, int and vor buttons are on and use the navaid plan for a more realistic route.

There are NAT tracks down there in Santa Maria airspace as well. Not all of the flights go through the Moncton-Gander.

Hello Dave. Thanks for that.Amazingly,or call it stupidly,I have only just got to discover more of the workings of this FSC v9 flight planner.Until now,I had only used it to create High Altitude flightplans. But then when I got a short shrift curt response from AivlaSoft that I'd missed the boat with their launch price offer for the EFB in conjunction with iFly,somebody else pointed me towards what more FSC could do.And sure enough,as you so rightly point out,I discovered that GPS link.I have since opened up FSC even more to discover all its goodies, and may for the time being until AivlaSoft's EFB becomes within my range of affordability,be content with it.Only thing that bugs is the little GPS mini-panel that shows up and yet I cannot get it to display what I want. The <> buttons go nowhere.

But surely that adds another 3000m+ to the flight plan, making it beyond range of most 'heavy iron'? A plane would have to fly virtually empty to carry enough fuel for a 6000+ miles route.Nontheless,an amazing revelation.
