June 8, 201115 yr Hi all, maybe the question has already been asked and answered but I couldn't find any 100% relevant post. If it has, dear moderators, please feel entirely free to remove the post.I would like to undock the PFD/ND and if possible EICAS gauges and put them on another monitor in bigger size. The second monitor is connected to the second video output of my GTX285. The two monitors are different in both size (23" for outside view and 19" hopefully for gauges) and resolution. However, on the 747-400X I never managed to achieve this without cutting my FPS by 50% everytime I took a gauge to the new monitor. PFD out : -50%, PFD+ND out = -75% etc etc etc. Unplayable. This happened in both windowed and full screen modes.Maybe I did something wrong though, however after much much research I couldn't find any solution. What about the 737NGX ? Will that be possible without rendering the sim unusable ?Thanks in advance for your thoughts. June 8, 201115 yr I always take my CDU to the other screen (in the 74X) and have never noticed any drops in FPS. Windowed mode, and only the CDU. Rick Butler Rainbow Lake Alberta, Canada

June 9, 201115 yr Author Are you using an external frame rate limiter?JackColwillHi Jack, thanks for your reply. I have tried the external limiter. It gives excellent results with "easy on fps" planes (Wilco/FT Embraer 170/190 for example). Without it, it is the classic graphical mess with these planes. However, with the 747-400X, after much testing it is better without it on my system (i7 920@4,1GHz, GTX285, 6Go RAM) because the 747-400X is so ressource intensive that it automatically limits itself to about 30-ish fps on heavy scenery and weather. Both scenery and autogen sliders maxed out, and weather slider maxed out too. Any ideas as to what I could change (other than reducing scenery and/or autogen) ?And concerning the NGX and undockable optimized gauges ?I always take my CDU to the other screen (in the 74X) and have never noticed any drops in FPS. Windowed mode, and only the CDU.Hi Rick, thanks for the info. I haven't tried just the CDU though as my primary interest was having PFD and ND more readable than in VC. I'll have a look at it.Anything like that is being caused by FSX itself or your specific system setup - we have no control over what the framerate does when you undock panels unfortunately. Hi Ryan, thanks for your input. Any ideas as to where this could come from ? Could there be a (small) tutorial in the NGX manual as to how optimize the undocking of gauges on a secondary monitor ? June 9, 201115 yr Commercial Member I honestly don't know - this isn't something any of us on the development team actually do, we're all single monitor users. I know there's a lot of people who do it without issue though. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
June 9, 201115 yr Ryan,do you know by any chance if there are gauges (or PFD, MFD, EICAS) that can be undocked - from the VC ? ____________________________________________________ Dieter de Wit

It had been working fine, where undocking caused no issues whatsoever, but then as soon as I upgraded I had the exact problem you describe. Unfortunately the only thing that fixed it was a complete reinstall of FSX. See this thread:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/329815-undocking-a-panel-causes-fps-to-drop-by-half/ Noah Bryant

Rebuilding the cfg (that actually really messed things up), changing every possible graphic setting in both FS and Catalyst, voodoo dolls... Noah Bryant
June 12, 201115 yr Author Hi Noah, thanks for the voodoo dolls idea. I was about to try, but my wife wasn't too happy about the dead chicken in the living room, the black candles and all the stuff, so I couldn't see the result on FSX Any pilot of the 747-400X using gauges on multi-monitors sucessfully would be welcome with his settings :)Anyway, that was not the primary objective of the thread : any ideas as to if the 737NGX will handle multi-monitor gauges ? June 12, 201115 yr From my experience the frame drop is solely related to he video card installed in your system, not any specific "optimization" of gauges for multi monitor use. Some video cards are better than others when it comes to rendering Direct3D across multiple desktops. For example; 2008 era laptop plays FSX relatively well, although when plugged into a second monitor, I see the same issues mentioned above. New last-summer desktop computer with an HD58-something (can't remember, replying from iPod) I can drag level ds 767 stuff and Wilco's airbuses windows all over the place to a second monitor through displayport with no detected loss of frames. Havnt tried it with the PMDG J41...not much to undock there anyways. Patrick Houghton
