The perils of flying a computer.
One thing that keeps returning as a surprise is and I quote "... handed over control during the take off roll and had nothing to do until the landing flare except maybe raise and lower the landing gear." Who on earth ever told that if you give control to a computer you have to do "nothing" anymore ? even boeing states that the autopilot and all of its FMS functions are there to support the pilot, bringing automation into the flying so that some tasks are easier to be managed... Now, I am an IT guy and I can tell you that if there is one thing you should do, verify the computer (autopilot) it is responding well to your input. I don't think you do nothing, I do think your "managing" the aircraft thru automation and verification, that can also be very busy on departure / arrival.

Dual Operation Air Bridges
I think you can modify GSX from within the simulator thru menu and identify serviceable / operational doors. Please check the GSX manual for further details.

Better use OP for FSX:MS & FSX:SE even when only using FSX:MS
Kyle, Thanks for taking the time to reply. Sorry if my post seemed to came across as...well not sure as what but wasn't received as positive that was for sure, but I had no intention to be offensive in anyway. Also, don't forget English is not my native tongue and stating "first.., Secondly, Thirdly.." was more like a memory checklist type out loud then an intention of being offensive. So after taking a deep breath and figuring that it might come across the wrong way, again I apologize and it was not my intention. Everything is updated now with your help of explaining what is exactly what. Next time I'll take a breath or 3 more... kind regard

Better use OP for FSX:MS & FSX:SE even when only using FSX:MS
i's not about arguing it is about understanding. Well I have downloaded the PMDG Operations Center, now it says 777 new updates but I have to install the full installer for it according to the instructions show on screen. From previuos post by PMDG they said : "If you are only running FSX - then this update isn't necessay for you" So it is not about arguing it is about understanding. Please help.

Better use OP for FSX:MS & FSX:SE even when only using FSX:MS
Hmm... just to be sure : OC = Operations Center right ? Second, I had OC with 737 NGX. Don't understand why you say only 777 drivers have it? Third, it was suggested to get the new OC (download it) because it it should support both FSX:MS & FSX:SE. : ".. This time, because of the changes we had to make to our installation process in order to account for FSX:SE- you will need to download the entire installer, fresh from our system..." and fourth, the OC I have now was installed seperatedly if I recall correctly. It can update itself, install liveries and so on... so I do consider this as a standalone software; So, to get back to the original questions: I do not need to download this new installer (OC) from PMDG site then ? - as it supports both FSX versions ? kind regards,

Better use OP for FSX:MS & FSX:SE even when only using FSX:MS
Hi, I am only using FSX:MS (so no steam edition). I was wondering thzt in the long run it might be better to install the new OC (that both platforms support) as I already see that SP1D has some clean up in it. Will FSX:MS only OC be continued to be supported ? (also in the long run?) Very confused about all this... Please advise PMDG ? Thanks. Dieter de Wit

RTO issues
In the tutorial: After you activate TO/GA, wait for THR REF to be annunciated and then push your physical joystick throttle fully forward, this prevents any mismatch between the throttle position and the A/T for the rest of the flight until descent. You might just want to read that document

What triggers the cabin ready message?
I think it is in the tutorials somewhere but yes it is random after the before taxi checklist is complete. Can't recall exactly where and what by hart but have a look at the tutorial

Problems... Problems... Problems...
Lol, I am not going to debate ITIL either, but... Incident : Cold & dark + ILS / FMC issue --> incident management : getting the user back up and running ASAP. workaround: use other state panel This incident must be raised as a "problem", hence problem management where dedicated resources (time, knowledge) investigates and provide solution (fix). This solution is presented to CAB - Change Advisory Board which is going to debate on the impact of solution viewing from operational point of view, release management etc with the stakeholders If agreed by CAB change can be deployed, release management can prepare the fix in a download package After package is downloaded and solution is installed, the cold & dark sate can be reused without the ILS/FMC bug. = problem solved.

Problems... Problems... Problems...
Problem is not solved. Workaround is implemented.

Problems... Problems... Problems...
Well, if you hear what has been set up on the part of the test team / test process in terms of knowledge (RL pilots), the time they take (rarely seen in commercial (software) projects I encounter) only to find out the the ILS is not set correctly in the FMC then did came as a surprise especially when PMDG are so comitted to quality (and test effort), because this ILS/FMC bug seemed so basic and surely they must have done ILS landings during their testing.... But really, that is the only surprise I got. If you see what level of complexity they have released and the number of 'real' bugs (so no issues from doing things wrong or not have read the manual..) one can only say it is truly a high quality product. Actually, in my professional experience as a tester / test lead I have not encountered one commercial project that has the same level of quality in terms of defects (bugs) as PMDG. Ofcourse, one must consider ofcourse that for business projects restrictions such as time, resources and budget are more strict.

Hit "Post New Topic" ONCE. It's not an elevator.
Same for me. So totally nothing like hitting "an elevator button x times because we can't wait"

Confused about Livery Tail number and Definition file
Hi, I got confused here - as title already said - about this definition file. From reading the introduction document it seems that everything is based on a new livery associated with only 1 definition file. What I am trying to accomplish is the PMDG 777 house color livery to have 2 definition files: one which is the PMDG default (don't want to change that) two is mine (777ARO definition file) and be able to select it from the aircraft menu What I did with the NGX is creating the.ini file and then in the details of the aircraft selection I changed the (frame) number. This way I could select the 737 NGX housecolor with my profile. Now I read that this is not the way to do it, but nowhere in the ops center I see the possiblity to add a new definition file to an existing airframe nor how to select it. Any suggestions on how to do this ? (I am reading this at work so don't have the tool in front of me to play with, just the document. So apologies if I missed the obvious...) kind regards Dieter

How to take off and land a real NG in one month....belgium TV
Yes he had..well that is too say he had time to train on single engine prop and doing a solo flight. Then they went off to the jet where he had to study again and pass the exam. Although the exam was for the instructor to know what Tom understood and how he was picking things up, and not for a certificate/license. Although the exam was a official one he did pass. If he would have failed any of those the instructor would have called the whole thing off But like previous posts noted it was the instructor who still did intervene and handled things further. Tom learned only a few basics (well if landing and T/O can be considered as basic) . That was why there was a 3rd pilot onboard. But nevertheless from never having flown, solo on single engine, multicrew basics and T/O + landing (himself) one can only say: he did it.

How to take off and land a real NG in one month....belgium TV
Do realize that Tom (= the guy that flew the plane) only trained certain specific aspects of the flight. He was accompanied by the (chief) instructor and another back up pilot. Nevertheless he did it. But don't get the wrong impression that one would become ATP licensed pilot (which he is not) after 1 month. It was because of the flight instructor he was allowed to "train" on the real aircaft therfore not braking any ICAO rules.

How did you start flying with the VC?
I accidently kept pushing "A" and guess what...

Landings (unautomated)
If you can nail 5 landings well, keep practising more and more. What I do for ILS taining is T/O, extend downwind from the pattern (circuit) until I am passed the ILS interception, then turning to intercept, touch & go, do the missed approach, realign(=fly back to ILS intercept) and start over. But practise practise practise. Did about the same hours like you on GA acft.
