July 1, 201114 yr Hi As a result of this thread ealier today http://forum.avsim.n...adar-contact-4/I downlaoded and started using Virtual dispatch flight planner as a accompliment to radar contact. My questions is...It has a option to check METAR for origin / destination airport with in it. I click check and for example for Stansted (EGSS) it says ... EGSS 012250Z 10007KT CAVOK 13/10 Q1024Now as I understand Metar refers to weather. I know Stansted has a 05 and 23 runway but I can not for the life of me work out what the above means or refers to. Ideally I was hoping it could tell me wind direction at Stansted. Is it doing that? Does anyone know what it all means?ThanksKeithy Keithy George

July 1, 201114 yr Hi,.. EGSS 012250Z 10007KT CAVOK 13/10 Q1024For Stanstead ( egss), at 2250 Zulu time on the 1st of the month (01. 2250), the wind is out of 100 degrees at 7 knots (100 07), sky clear, temperature 13 degrees C, dew point 10 degrees C (13 / 10), altimeter setting 1024 mb. So, if the runways are at 05 and 23, this wind would favor runway 05, with a slight crosswind from the right.Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.

July 2, 201114 yr Hi there! You might wanna check METAR's Wikipedia. It will help you to learn and decode them a lot in the future.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NOSIGregards,Igor
July 2, 201114 yr Indeed you should add/decrease the airport's magnetic variation from the wind direction reported in the METAR.Example: EGSS = -2.2 so winds = +/- 098 degrees.
