FSX won't run anymore ! side-by-side error

Featured Replies

Sorry to post here, as this isn't a CTD, simply put: it won't run anymore , all was running perfect until a week ago - I was too busy with some other sim stuff and I did not notice it, could it be one of the countless Windows updates ? I am running it on Win 7 Home Premium 64 bits.and I've tried a re-install - it gave the same error.

Download and run ENU (vcredist_x86.exe) and see if it helps..

Hmmm... It´s a tough one!No more options from here, sorry, good luck...

It could be the log book error. Do a search in these forums for log book corruption and see if your symptoms match the 'FSX fails to load after...' symptoms described in some of those threads.EDIT: Never mind :-) I didn't notice "side-by-side" in the title...which means it more likely to do with .NET Framework or C++ runtime components or simconnect

If all else fails try a system restore point.

What is the exact error you are getting?

Jay

It is not an FSX error but FSX and some FSX addons do require some of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables in order to be installed correctly and to run properly. Do a search via Google or Bing for the side-by-side error and you will see everyone states it was fixed by installing Microsoft Visual redistributables. You should have details about this in your Event Viewer. These are required for the proper operation of most any program/game. When you install redistributables and any program, make sure your anti-virus program and Windows UAC has been disabled as they could corrupt the installation. If you think it was the "countless Windows updates", you can look in your system restore program and go back to the time before those updates were installed. I doubt that will fix your problem though. Programs also require the dotnet framework software as developers use these programs for proper installation and operation of their programs. The only thing I find really strange is the fact you state FSX was running perfectly a week ago. That indicates to me that FSX was installed properly. Still I would continue to work on getting the redistributables installed which is the known fix for this problem as detailed in Internet searches.Best regards,Jim

If you installed FSX to the default location, this is the correct address to find the fsx.exe .....C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X

it is refering to that file that has a linkthat link is"D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe"so it is pointing to the right linkwhen I click the fsx.exe - it should load, but it gives again the same error message

I don´t understand this.. First you mention FSX is installed in C:\Programs - then you mention this:"D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe" I´m not familiar with how FSX handles the "route" to FSX.exe when installed in Programs, I keep it out of the default folder! Did you install something new in FSX, or elsewhere in your PC when this happened??
