new flight sim

Featured Replies

First off let me apologize if this is not the right Forum, but it looked like the most appropriate. The new flight sim that is on the way for some reason looks a lot like X,(clouds, water, trees, ETC.) I just cannot see the big difference. Now on different blogs I get the feeling it’s going to be more a game then a SIM. (The one thing i did not like about X was the Flying races thing, they should have put more time and effort into the realism and looks of the SIM.) I am willing to spend more money on a better product then the same 75 to 90 for the same crap that you have to then go out and buy vast amount of add ons to make it look decent! Does anybody own this following product? http://www.prepar3d.com/If so what do you think of it? yes its 500 but heck with my add ons to x i may have 300 or 400 in it, and yes it does look like its an x plat form but if you buy the new one and add on the extras your into that much any way.

I have big doubts there. There's no need to apologize, but a much bigger one to look (or search) first and then post. :smile:Here's your forum, not too far away. http://forum.avsim.n...t-flight-forum/Regarding prepar3d, just perform a search to find some interesting readings.

The flying races thing was part of the Acceleration Addon Pack, not part of the base FSX product, so no time was spent on it until after the base sim and the first service pack were done.Tim

Keep in mind that the people writing these blogs usually know exactly as little about Flight as you and I do. Head over to the Flight forum and enjoy some serious rumor chaos (just remember what I said about the blogs, it applies here as well).

FSX can be an amazing simulation experience with the right payware aircraft, scenery, and most important, a computer that can run FSX smoothly. It can be financially costly and time consuming, but it's a worthwhile goal.As for Flight, I expect that history will repeat itself.

Agreed. I wish people would quit whining and complaining about the cost of this flight sim hobby. It's a hobby dammit! One can easily spend $5000 on flying radio controlled aircraft over two or three seasons. One can easily spend that same $3000 on golf: same with a powerboat or a sailboat: how about gliding? or getting a ppl? or a home theater? How about football, baseball, or hockey? I have enjoyed the rewards of flight in many forms since I was about five years old: the attraction has never once wavered, and if I spend $50 a month on an addon - it's for my personal pleasure. This is my escape from the real world of doom, gloom and the ordinary life: This is how I get my kicks. And I expect to pay and thank someone who has the programming skills to produce that payware.

I don't own it, but I understand Prepar3D is FSX, it just has a different license - for commercial use. However Lockheed Martin continues to adapt this code…so it’s slowing branching away from the hobby sim. I suspect the new features so far wouldn’t be of much interest to a hobbyist; unless you’re a cockpit builder, or maybe running an instructor station, or adapting the software in some other way. Still, it might be of interest to you for other reasons. And it is designed to use FSX compatible add-ons – although some may need to be specifically compiled for Prepar3D. :smile:If your main goal is to get add-on quality detail out of the box…I’d say MS Flight is the product to watch. The default content will raise the bar on what you get in FSX. But small regions of hand built content - that’s been methodically polished - will always exceed default quality. So even in Flight you’ll want to upgrade certain areas with add-ons that push the new limits. The area of land on earth is around 60 million square miles….so that’s a lot of default content to make ;)

Paul J, you've got it absolutely right!
